Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明はパッケージにシールされた輪郭ストリップを
有する開閉可能なパッケージに関する。更に詳しくは、
本発明は開閉可能な要素を形成した輪郭ストリップの改
良した設計に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
パッケージの中身を取り出し可能に閉じ込めるための
開閉可能な輪郭ストリップすなわちジッパー付の種々の
型式のパッケージを提供することは良く知られている。
そのようなパッケージは、食品又は食べられない物品の
ような種々の品物を入れるのに用いられる。輪郭ストリ
ップの開閉可能な機構の代表的設計が、ナイトー（Nait
o）に付与された米国特許第3,198,228号に開示されてい
る。ナイトーは、リブすなわち雄閉鎖部材と、合い溝す
なわち雌閉鎖部材とを備え、この２つの部材を互に向い
合せてパッケージの開放端の内側に沿って形成した、閉
鎖具すなわち噛み合わせ手段を開示する。雄閉鎖部材と
雌閉鎖部材は圧力で噛み合わせ、かつ外すことができ、
圧力留め・外し可能な閉鎖機構を形成する。ナイトーは
又、雄閉鎖部材の各側に１つずつ位置決めして、雄閉鎖
部材に取付けられた一対の支持レールを開示する。
ある適用では輪郭ストリップはパッケージ材料と一体
に形成され、他の適用では輪郭ストリップは別体に形成
され、パッケージにシールされる。どちらの場合でも、
ストリップはパッケージに完全に取付けられる。
噛み合わせ閉鎖機構の設計の共通の解決法は、力の生
ずる源に応じて機構を外すのに異なる力を必要とする装
置を提供することであった。外す力は、静止した状態で
あるいは落下、転倒又は衝撃でパッケージの中身によっ
て及ぼされる力のような、閉鎖機構の内側（パッケージ
側）から生ずるか、あるいはパッケージに入れようとし
て人によって加えられる力のような、閉鎖機構の外側か
ら生ずる。これらの装置は、内側から噛み合わせ閉鎖機
構を開くのに必要とされる力が、外側からこの機構を開
くのに必要とされる力よりも大きいように設計された。
そのような設計の例は、ナイトーの米国特許第3,198,22
8号及びオースニット（Ausnit）の米国特許第4,736,451
号の特許に開示される。これらの設計は、外側から噛み
合わせ閉鎖機構を開くのに必要とされる力が小さいた
め、不用意に開かられやすいことがわかった。
噛み合わせ閉鎖機構の設計への別の珍しい解決法は、
平均的使用者の心理を考慮して設計された。使用者は外
側から容易に開くことができる噛み合わせ閉鎖機構に懐
疑的な傾向がある、なぜなら使用者はかかる機構が内側
から作用する力に対する抵抗が不十分であることを恐れ
るからである。かくして、外側から外すのに、内側から
と同じ力を必要とする噛み合わせ閉鎖機構が設計され
た。かかる設計の例が、シーゲル（Siegel）に付与され
た米国特許第3,633,642号に開示されている。パッケー
ジの中身を収容し、あるいは維持するほど強く、同時に
パッケージへの入れにくさを使用者に生じさせるほどは
強くない、許容できる範囲の噛み合わせ力が存在するこ
とがわかった。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
本発明の目的は、後者の珍しい解決法の目的と一致し
ている開閉可能な輪郭ストリップのための改良された設
計を提供することである、従って、本発明の目的は、外
すのに単一の力を必要とし、不用意に開きにくい輪郭ス
トリップのための改良された設計を提供することであ
る。これらの目的のために、本発明は外す力が外側で生
ずるか内側で生ずるかに無関係に輪郭ストリップに作用
する外す力の経路を限定する。かくして、内側からある
いは外側から輪郭ストリップを外して、パッケージを開
くのに必要とされる力は単一で最小である。たった１つ
の運動が輪郭ストリップに考えられ、かくしてたった１
つの外れ抵抗を設ければよい。本発明は、外側からうっ
かり開く問題をなくし、上述した使用者の心理と一層合
致する。たった１つの外れ抵抗方法が必要であることに
より、設計を簡単にし、必要な材料が少なくてすむ。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
これらの目的及び他の目的のために、本発明は、開閉
可能なパッケージに使用するための輪郭ストリップであ
って、開放端及びパッケージ端を有するパッケージと、
前記開放端で前記パッケージに固着された第１輪郭スト
リップとを備え、該第１輪郭ストリップが、前記第１輪
郭ストリップから延びる雄部材と、前記第１輪郭ストリ
ップから延び、かつ、前記雄部材と前記パッケージ端と
の間に配置された第１ポストと、前記第１輪郭ストリッ
プから延び、かつ、前記第１ポストと前記パッケージ端
との間に配置された第２ポストと、を有しており、前記
開放端で前記パッケージに固着された第２輪郭ストリッ
プを備え、該第２輪郭ストリップが、前記第２輪郭スト
リップから延びる雌部材を有し、該雌部材が、圧力下で
前記雄部材と合い、それによって、前記パッケージを閉
鎖することができ、前記雌部材は、圧力により前記雄部
材から外すことができ、前記第２輪郭ストリップから延
びる第３ポストを有し、該第３ポストが、前記雌部材と
前記パッケージ端との間に配置され、前記第３ポスト
は、前記雄部材と前記雌部材とを合わせたときに、前記
第１ポストと前記第２ポストとの間に延び、前記第１輪
郭ストリップは、前記雄部材と前記開放端との間に位置
した第１限定領域で前記パッケージに固着され、前記第
２輪郭ストリップは、前記雌部材と前記開放端との間に
位置した第２限定領域で前記パッケージに固着され、前
記第１ポストは、外し中、前記雌部材の一部分に接触す
るほど、前記雄部材に近く位置決めされ、前記第３ポス
トは、外し中、前記第１ポスト及び前記第２ポストの一
部分に接触するほど、前記第１ポスト及び前記第２ポス
トに近く位置決めされている、輪郭ストリップを提供す
る。パッケージに最初に作用するあらゆる外す力が単一
経路を通してストリップに差し向けられるように、輪郭
ストリップは限られた領域でパッケージに固着される。
ポスト部材は、雌閉鎖部材の一部分とくさび作用あるい
は回動形相互作用により外れ抵抗を更に加えるほど雄閉
鎖部材に近く位置決めされる。
本発明とその利点は、添付図面を参照して、以下の詳
細な説明を考慮することにより最も良く理解されよう。
〔実施例〕
第１図は、開閉可能な輪郭ストリップ20及び30を有す
るパッケージ10を示す。パッケージ10と輪郭ストリップ
20及び30は同じ材料、好ましくは約9.00gm/cm3から9.60
gm/cm3の密度を有するポリエチレンで形成することがで
きる。ポリプロピレン及びポリブチレンを含む広範囲の
他の材料も又、パッケージ10に適しており、又上記の種
々の混合物を含む登録商標「サルリン（SurLyn）」の下
にデュポン（DuPont）から市販されているイオノマー樹
脂が輪郭ストリップ20及び30に適している。
パッケージ10は、代表的には上層フィルム12と下層フ
ィルム14とからなる。パッケージ10は、周側（図示せ
ず）でフィルム12と14を互いにヒートシールすることに
よって、在来の仕方で形成される。パッケージフィルム
12、14はパッケージ10の外側に、フランジ11、13を構成
し、これによって第２図と第３図に示すようにパッケー
ジ10を引張って開くことができる。パッケージ10を種々
の食品あるいは他の食べられない物品を入れるのに用い
ても良い。本発明と共に用いることができる食品パッケ
ージの例が、1989年４月24日付の関連米国特許出願第07
/342,257号「開閉可能なパッケージの形成方法、これに
用いられる輪郭、及びこれによって製造したパッケー
ジ」に説明され、図示されており、これを全体として参
考にここに組み込んである。
第１図を再度参照すると、輪郭ストリップ20、30は直
接、ヒートシールバー（図示せず）によってパッケージ
のフィルム12、14にそれぞれ取付けられるのが好まし
い。先に参照した米国特許出願第07/342,257号は取付の
別の方法を開示する。取付のその他の許容される方法
は、熱風シール、高周波シールおよび超音波ヒートシー
ルであり、これらはすべてこの技術分野で周知である。
ヒートシールは、ウェブ裏張り部材18、19とパッケージ
フィルム12、14それぞれとの間の境界に適用される。
第２図ないし第４図で最も良くわかるように、ウェブ
裏張り部材18、19はパッケージフィルム12、14に完全に
は取付けられずに、ヒートトシールが輪郭スカート16と
呼ばれる一定領域に適用される。輪郭スカート16は全体
的に、閉鎖部材22、32のところであるいはそれより上
で、輪郭ストリップ20、30の外側に設けられる。輪郭ス
カート16の位置決めの作用及び輪郭ストリップ20、30の
外し動作を以下により詳細に説明する。
輪郭ストリップ20、30は、ウェブ裏張り部材18、19、
雄閉鎖部材22、雌閉鎖部材32、及び輪郭ストリップ20に
取付けられ輪郭ストリップ20の内側に設けられた少なく
とも１つのポスト部材40を含む。噛み合わせの雄閉鎖部
材22と雌閉鎖部材32の好ましい外形が先に参照したナイ
トー（Naito）の米国特許第3,198,228号に説明され図示
されており、これも又全体として参考にここに組み込ん
である。
第１図ないし第５図でわかるように、雄閉鎖部材22の
横断面は、全体的にやじりの形状をなしている。雄閉鎖
部材22は輪郭ストリップ20の全長に沿って延び、かつ首
部24と頭部26とを有し、この頭部26は肩要素27、28と呼
ばれるアンダーカット部分を有する。肩要素28は一般的
には肩要素27よりも雄ウェブ裏張り部材18に近く位置決
めされる。肩要素28はウェブ裏張り部材18に向かって下
向きに傾斜し、軸線Ａと角度θをなす。肩要素27は、軸
線Ａにほぼ垂直である。
雌閉鎖部材32は輪郭ストリップ30の全長に沿って延
び、一対のステム33、34とフック35、36からなり、その
組合せは雄閉鎖部材22の矢じり形状にほぼ一致する。フ
ック34は、フック36よりも雌ウェブ裏張り部材19に近く
位置決めされる。フック36は軸線Ａと角度α（示さず）
をなし、ウェブ裏張り部材19に向かって上向きに傾斜し
ている。ポスト部材40は、横断面がほぼ矩形であり、輪
郭ストリップ20の全長に沿って延びる。ポスト部材40は
雄閉鎖部材22の内側に設けられ、以下に説明するように
輪郭ストリップ20と30を係合させるとき、ステム34とフ
ック36をポスト部材40と雄閉鎖部材22の間の空間に係合
させるほど雄閉鎖部材22に近い。
輪郭ストリップ20、30の雄閉鎖部材22、雌閉鎖部材32
及びポスト部材40の係合は、第１図で最も良くわかる。
雄閉鎖部材22と雌閉鎖部材32をパッケージ10の外部から
指で押すと、雄閉鎖部材22の頭部26が雌閉鎖部材32のフ
ック35及び36と接触する。頭部26により及ぼされた圧力
に応答して、ステム33、34及びフック35、36は外向き方
向に押し開かれて、雄閉鎖部材22を受け入れる。ステム
34とフック36が外方に押されると、ステム34とフック36
はポスト部材40に当り、ポスト部材40を同じ方向に外方
に押す。雄閉鎖部材22が前進すると、ついにステム33、
34はそれらの最初の位置（軸線Ａに平行）に戻り、肩要
素27、28はそれぞれフック35、36によって捕捉される。
ステム34がその最初の位置に戻ると、ポスト部材40も最
初の位置（やはり軸線Ａに平行）になり、これにより、
ステム34とフック36を雄閉鎖部材22とポスト部材40の間
の空間に係合させる。
輪郭ストリップ20及び30を外すように作用する力（第
２図ないし第４図にＦとして示す）は、第２図及び第３
図で最も良くわかるように外側からか、あるいは第４図
で最も良くわかるように内側から生ずる。内側からの力
はパッケージ10の中身によりパッケージフィルム12及び
14に及ぼされるものである。外側からの力は、フランジ
11及び13を引っぱってパッケージを外側から開けようと
して消費者によって加えられるものである。既に説明し
たように、輪郭ストリップ20、30とパッケージフィルム
12、14の間のシールは、輪郭スカート16と呼ばれる領域
に集中しており、閉鎖部材22、32のところで又はそれよ
り上で、輪郭ストリップ20、30の外側に位置決めさてい
る。輪郭スカート16の位置の結果、外す力が内側から生
ずるか（パッケージ中身により生じた）、外側から生ず
るか（消費者により生じた）に無関係に上述した外す力
は輪郭スカート16を経て輪郭ストリップ20及び30に伝え
られる。かくして、輪郭ストリップに及ぼされる外す力
の経路が１つだけであり、それゆえ、これらの力に抵抗
する方法も１つだけが必要とするにすぎない。
第２図及び第３図は、輪郭ストリップ20及び30の外し
中の雄閉鎖部材22、雌閉鎖部材32及びポスト部材40の相
対的移動を示す。外す力が輪郭スカート16を経て加えら
れると、輪郭ストリップ20及び30は反対方向に引っぱら
れ、雄閉鎖部材22と雌閉鎖部材32は、互に斜めになり始
める。フック35は肩要素27に沿って移動し、ついには外
れる。その間、フック36は雄閉鎖部材22から遠ざかる方
向に肩要素28に沿って移動する。肩要素28とフック36の
傾めの向きは相互に作用して肩要素28に沿うフック36の
移動に抵抗する。ポスト部材40の位置は、フック36が肩
要素28に沿って移動しつづけるとき、ステム34とフック
36がポスト部材40に当たるような位置である。ポスト部
材40はステム34とフック36からの圧力に応答して外方に
曲がり、ポスト部材40、ステム34、フック36、及び雄閉
鎖部材22の間にくさび作用あるいは回動形相互作用を起
こし、これにより、外れ抵抗を更に高める。力が輪郭ス
カート16を経て加えられつづけると、フック36は肩要素
28に沿って移動しつづけ、ついには外れて、輪郭ストリ
ップ20と30の分離を完了し、パッケージ10を開く。
この動作の先の説明から明らかなように、輪郭ストリ
ップ20及び30の種々の構成部品の相対的寸法、向き及び
位置は、噛み合わせ強度（外れ抵抗）と物品の能率的動
作に影響する。好ましい実施例では、ステム33、34の幅
は各0.25mm（0.01インチ）である。雌ウェブ裏張り部材
19の外縁からフック35の端までの距離は、約1.14mm（0.
045インチ）から約1.27mm（0.050インチ）である。首部
24の幅は約0.38mm（0.015インチ）である。角度θは約7
5度であり、雄ウェブ裏張り部材18の外縁から頭部26の
頂部までの距離は約1.14mm（0.045インチ）から約1.27m
m（0.050インチ）である。ステム34及び35の間の隙間は
0.51mm（0.020インチ）の範囲内にある。
輪郭ストリップ20、30が係合するとき、ステム34とフ
ック36が外し中、ポスト部材40に十分に接触するよう
に、ポスト部材40は少なくともフック36のアンダーカッ
ト部分と同じくらいの高さであるべきである。ポスト部
材40は又、雄閉鎖部材22に十分近く位置決めされ、係合
中、ステム34とフック36の十分な案内と安定性をもたら
し、かつ前述したように外し中くさび作用あるいは回動
形相互作用を行なう。この例では、輪郭ストリップ20及
び30を係合させたとき、ポスト部材40はステム34にちょ
うど接触する。ここに説明した例の上述した寸法は、約
0.68kg（1.5ポンド）から約1.1kg（2.5ポンド）の外し
力をもって輪郭ストリップを明らかにする。
ヒートシールは、パッケージ10に日常加えられる種々
の力の作用で分離せず、あるいは破れない程の強度のも
のでなければならない。特に、シールは輪郭ストリップ
20及び30を外すのに必要とされる力よりも少なくとも強
くなければならない。シールの強度は、輪郭スカート16
の面積に関係する。好ましい側では、輪郭スカート16は
輪郭ストリップ20及び30の長さに沿って延び、約0.10mm
（0.004インチ）から約0.18mm（0.007インチ）の厚さで
ある（外側から内側までを測定した）。
本発明の実施例では、第５図に示されているように、
追加のポスト部材40′及び40″を加えられる。これによ
り輪郭ストリップ20及び30の噛み合わせ強度を高め、係
合の案内を更に行う。追加のポスト部材40′及び40″は
最初のポスト部材40と同様に位置決めされ、輪郭ストリ
ップ20と30の間を変える。ポスト部材40′、40″を、外
し中、ポスト部材間の接触を可能にするほど隣接したポ
スト部材に近く位置決めすべきである。その上、閉鎖部
材22、32とポスト部材40のウェブ裏張り部材18、19に対
する向きの角度を変えて、噛み合わせ強度を更に調整す
ることができる。更に、輪郭ストリップ及びパッケージ
間の境界領域が上述した仕方の輪郭スカート領域に制限
される限り、この輪郭ストリップをパッケージ材料と一
体に形成することができる。そのようなすべての変更
は、特許請求の範囲によって包含されるものである。

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】開閉可能なパッケージに使用するための輪
    郭ストリップであって、 （ａ）開放端及びパッケージ端を有するパッケージと、 （ｂ）前記開放端で前記パッケージに固着された第１輪
    郭ストリップとを備え、 該第１輪郭ストリップが、 （ｉ）前記第１輪郭ストリップから延びる雄部材と、 （ii）前記第１輪郭ストリップから延び、かつ、前記雄
    部材と前記パッケージ端との間に配置された第１ポスト
    と、 （iii）前記第１輪郭ストリップから延び、かつ、前記
    第１ポストと前記パッケージ端との間に配置された第２
    ポストと、 を有しており、 （ｃ）前記開放端で前記パッケージに固着された第２輪
