Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、郵便料金の代わりに郵便物上へ貼られる該
郵便料金認証のためのコードを提供するように暗号化さ
れた符号を有している証紙に関する。
郵便料金メーターは郵送される目的物へ郵便料金を印
刷するために世界中で広く使用されている。勿論、郵便
料金は、郵便配達員が郵便料金を付与した郵便物を表記
の住所へ運ぶための料金である。この郵便料金は、郵便
料金メーター内に設けられているプリントヘッドによっ
て郵便物即ち封筒へ直接に、又はラベル上へ付与出来
る。郵便料金がラベル上へ印刷されるときにはそのラベ
ルが郵送される封筒、小包等へ糊付けされる。郵便料金
メーターはまた郵便料金以外の情報も印刷出来る。例え
ば郵便料金メーターは発送日、度数、適当な目的地の表
示及び／又は個人の配達員による郵送のための道順情報
等である。更に、もし必要ならこの郵便料金メーター
は、政府の認可が得られる限り、税金印（tax stamp）
等のその他のラベルの印刷にも使用出来る。
かかる印刷された郵便料金を使用する場合の潜在的問
題はそのような郵便料金の不正な使用である。実際に、
郵便料金の不正を行なおうとする者が郵便料金を盗むこ
とがある。不正な印刷によりある者は郵便料金を得るこ
とが出来、又税金印の場合には税金の支払いをごまかす
ことが出来ることになる。これらの問題は、郵便物の郵
便料金が種々のコード等により真正であるかどうかを決
定する種々の方法によって解消されまたかかる方法を達
成するための装置が開発されている。
本発明は、郵便物上の郵便料金が真正であるか否かを
決定する有利な方法を提供する。この方法は、コード化
された符号の開発のための電気的回路と、郵便料金及び
その他の情報をコード化した符号で組み合わせた証紙を
印刷するため電気回路で駆動される印刷機と、を含む装
置によって達成出来る。このコード化された符号はロー
マ字又はその他の字体をなし郵便料金を照合するために
使用出来る。本発明の重要な特徴は、符号が郵便料金、
日付、更にもし必要なら発信人その他のデータ等の郵便
物上のデータから引き出され、これにより郵便物又はラ
ベルへ印刷されたデータがコード化した符号に関連され
ていることである。印刷表示物が変わると、コード化さ
れた符号がデコードされることが出来なかったり、もし
デコードされても郵便料金が郵便物上に印刷されたコー
ド化された符号と一致しないであろう。
以下、具体例について述べる。
第１図には郵便物上へ郵便料金メーターにより印字さ
れる通常の料金別納郵便物証印が番号10で示してある。
この証印は、郵便料金に関する情報12、証印10を印字し
た郵便料金メーターを識別するメーター番号に関する情
報14、郵便料金を印刷した日付に関する情報16、該メー
ターが郵便料金を印刷した度数を示している度数に関す
る情報18、コード即ち暗号化した符号に関する情報20を
有している。この実施例においてはこの暗号化した符号
に関する情報20は数値形式をなしておりかつ度数に関す
る情報18の最も意味の少ない数の如くにして配置されて
いる。この情報20はアルファベットでもよくまたは、そ
れが数値、アルファベットその他の符号としてどこにで
も配置出来るのである。
暗号化した符号に関する情報20を付けるためのコーダ
ーはよく知られており、米国規格基準局にて使用されて
いるような種々のシステムを使用出来よう。シードナン
バー及びそれから生じる暗号化された符号を付けるため
本発明にて使用されるコーダーは、米国特許第515760号
（1983年７月21日出願）即ち特願昭59−151152号に述べ
てある。
第２図には、第１図に示された情報を確認するために
使用されるシステムが示されてあり、このシステムはデ
コーダー22を含んでいる。このデコーダー22はインテル
（Intel）モデル8039のようなマイクロプロセッサーと
することが出来る。郵便物へ対する郵便料金の有効性に
ついての疑問があるときには、郵便局員又は秘書がデコ
ーダー22に、郵便料金に関する情報12、メーター番号に
関する情報14、日付に関する情報16、度数に関する情報
18を適当な方法で入力する。デコーダー22はコーダーに
よってもたらされるシードナンバーを内部に記憶してい
る。デコーダー22はデコード即ち解読のために使用され
かつデコーダー22へ供給された情報に基づき有効な暗号
化された符号を決定するための暗号解析を行う。入力さ
れた郵便データーに関する情報を処理した後、有効な暗
号化された符号に関する情報20が、例えば表示盤等によ
り郵便局員等へ提供される。もしデコーダー22によりも
たらされたこの符号情報20が度数目盛りの符号情報20に
一致するなら操作員は郵便料金が本当であることを知る
ことが出来る。もし一致がなければ悪口を知り、適当な
行為を取ることが出来るのである。
前述の如く、暗号化した符号に関する情報20は公知の
形態にて証印10の適当な箇所へ配置出来る。例えば、こ
の暗号化された符号に関する情報20は郵便データの度数
に関する情報18と一連に暗号化されて表示されることが
出来、又は、メーター番号に関する情報14と一連に暗号
化されて表示されることも出来る。いずれにしてもこの
技術によって標準システムが確立される限り郵政当局は
照合出来るようになるのである。

Claims (3)

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】郵便物へ付された証印10が真正なものか否
    かを照合する方法であって、 デコーダー22に入力される、郵便料金情報12、メーター
    番号情報14、度数情報18及び日付情報16等より構成され
    ている郵便データと、該デコーダー22に記憶されている
    シードナンバーと、により文字又は数字から成る暗号化
    した符号に関する情報20を当該デコーダー22にて演算す
    ること； 前記郵便データと、この前記郵便データのいずれかと一
    連に前記暗号化した符号に関する情報20と、を印字する
    ことにより証印を作成し、これを郵便物へ付すこと； 郵便物へ付された前記証印の前記郵便データと、前記シ
    ードナンバーと、から単一の暗号化した符号に関する情
    報をデコーダーで演算すること； 前記デコーダーで演算した該暗号化した符号に関する情
    報と、証印上の暗号化した符号に関する情報と、を比較
    すること； からなる真正な証印か否かを照合する証印の照合方法。
  2. 【請求項２】暗号化した符号に関する前記情報20が郵便
    データの度数に関する情報18と一連に暗号化されて表示
    されていることを特徴とする請求項１に記載の照合方
    法。
  3. 【請求項３】暗号化した符号に関する前記情報20が郵便
    データのメーター番号に関する情報14と一連に暗号化さ
    れて表示されていることを特徴とする請求項１に記載の
    照合方法。
