Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image reader that reads an image of a document.
In general, an image forming apparatus such as a copier or a facsimile includes an image reading apparatus that optically reads an original image. In addition, many image reading devices have an automatic document transporting device (Auto Document Feeder, hereinafter referred to as ADF) that transports a plurality of documents placed on a document tray one by one to an image reading unit. The ADF includes a pickup roller that feeds the placed document, a separation unit that separates the document fed by the pickup roller, a extraction roller that transmits the document separated by the separation unit to the image reading unit, and a transfer roller. Etc. are provided. Further, the ADF arranges a plurality of sensors on the document transport path, and executes the transport control by using the detection information of these sensors.
The image reading device of
On the other hand,
Generally, the size of the conveyed document is detected as a standard size such as A4 or B5 by the document width detection sensor or the document length detection sensor provided on the document tray.
In an image reading device that detects a document on a document tray as a standard size, when a partially folded document Sz is set in the document tray as shown in FIG. 4, the folded part does not cover the sensor and is actually The size is detected as a document with a length shorter than that of the original.
Further, as shown in FIG. 5, when an amorphous original Sf slightly longer than the A4 standard original S (
In this way, when the length in the transport direction of the actual document and the length in the transport direction in the document size detected by the size detector on the document tray are different, the lowering control of the pickup roller is performed by the method of
In view of the above problems, it is an object of the present invention to reduce damage to the original when a document longer than the predicted length of the original is conveyed.
In order to achieve the above object, the image reading device of the present invention has a document tray on which a document is placed, a size detection unit that detects the size of the document placed on the document tray, and the document tray. A pickup roller that feeds the placed originals, a separation portion that forms a separation nip and separates the originals fed by the pickup roller one by one at the separation nip, and the separation portion in the transport direction of the originals. A pull-out roller provided downstream of the separation unit for transporting the separated document at the separation nip, an image reading unit for reading an image of the document transported from the extraction roller, and downstream of the separation nip in the transport direction. A first sensor provided to detect the tip of the document, a second sensor provided upstream of the first sensor in the transport direction to detect the rear end of the document, and a drive of the pickup roller are controlled. The control means has a control means, and the control means uses the pickup roller to start feeding the document placed on the document tray in accordance with (1) an instruction to start reading an image. The pick-up roller is moved to a contact position where it comes into contact with the document placed on the tray, and (2) when the tip of the document fed from the document tray is detected by the first sensor, the pickup roller is moved to the contact position. It is moved from the contact position to a separation position above the contact position, and (3) after the pickup roller moves from the contact position to the separation position, it corresponds to the size of the document detected by the size detection unit. The pickup roller is moved from the separation position to the contact position according to the passage of time, and (4) a preset time is set after the pickup roller moves from the separation position to the contact position. If the rear end of the fed document is detected by the second sensor before the lapse of time, the feed of the next document is started while the pickup roller is maintained at the contact position. If the rear end of the document is not detected by the second sensor before the time has elapsed, the pickup roller is moved from the contact position to the separation position, and the contact is made again from the separation position. After moving to the position, the feeding of the next manuscript is started.
According to the present invention, when a document longer than the predicted document length is conveyed, damage to the document can be reduced.

The timeout times T1, T2, and T3 are calculated as follows. The time T2 is the time until the
T1=(Ls/V)−T2・・・(式1)
The time T1 is the time from when the
T1 = (Ls / V) -T2 ... (Equation 1)
T3=L1/V・・・(式2)
The time T3 is the time from when the
T3 = L1 / V ... (Equation 2)
Next, the CPU (A) 251 waits for a paper feed start request from the CPU (B) 301 (S103). When the CPU (A) 251 receives the job start request from the CPU (B) 301 (S103-YES), the CPU (A) 251 determines whether or not the
The CPU (A) 251 detects whether the tip of the conveyed document S1 has passed through the sensor 16 (the sensor is turned on) after being pulled out (S107). As shown in FIG. 11B, when the
Next, the time measuring unit 229 determines the time T2 from the separated position where the
Therefore, when the time T2 times out (S114-Yes), the CPU (A) 251 sets the time T3 from the document surface contact position until the
After the separation, the

First, it is determined whether or not the transport roller is rotating (S301). The transport system rollers include a
(Second Embodiment)
Next, the second embodiment will be described. The second embodiment is an example of switching the paper feed control between the case of a thin paper document and the case of a plain paper document with respect to the paper feed control in the first embodiment. In the configuration of the second embodiment, the description of the same configuration as that of the first embodiment will be omitted.

<Paper control in the second embodiment>
In the case of a thin paper original, when a document longer than the predicted length is conveyed and the

The CPU (B) 301 waits for a job start request (S201). When the job start request is received from the CPU (B) 301 (S201-YES), the predicted length Ls of the document on the
The calculation of the predicted length Ls of the manuscript and the timeout times T1, T2, and T3 is the same as in the first embodiment. S203 to S214 are the same as S103 to S114 of the first embodiment, respectively.
After the
When it is determined in S215 that the manuscript information is either a thin paper manuscript or an amorphous manuscript (S215-Yes), the same processing as in S115 to S120 of the first embodiment is sequentially executed. S216 to S221 are the same processes as S115 to S120 of the first embodiment, respectively.
If it is determined in S221 that there is no document on the document tray 30 (S221-No), the
In the second embodiment, the paper feed control is switched in S215 on the flowchart of FIG. 14 according to the document information. However, the switching condition may be set to a predetermined document length or less (for example, 210 mm), and the processes S216 to S220 may be executed when the length Ls detected on the
<効果>
<Effect>
As described above, by the paper feed control described in the first embodiment and the second embodiment, the document length predicted on the document tray after the tip of the document to be conveyed is detected and before the rear edge of the document is detected. Based on this, the
<変形例>
