大径輪走行用の乗換乗越えレールは車輪が空転する低い位置から勾配を作って従前走行レールと等高にするための切り込みの深さをそれぞれ順序をもって調整する為の枕木である。
当該勾配を実現する方法としてレール本体側長手方向に勾配を作る方法と共に、本項ではレールではなく枕木にて「区間に設置する枕木毎に勾配用の深さを変えて予め設定した標準勾配を実現」させる勾配確保に関する技術である。
また、枕木の切り込み深さを同じくして厚みの違うスペーサーを順次挟み込み、または留め具のレールを乗せる部分の高さを順次変えていきレールの勾配及び高さを調整して勾配を確保する方法がある。
また、当該レール高さを変更する工事の際に旧レールと新設レールの高さ調整を厚みを順次替えたスペーサー取り付けることによって新旧の段差を調整しながら工事を進めることが出来る。犬釘またはレール留め具のレールとの間にスペーサーを挟み勾配を調整することが出来る。
