Claims (16)
- 複数の相互に連続的な燃料セル(13)と、
エラストマ封止材(29)と、を備えた燃料セルスタック(11)であって、
前記燃料セルの各々は、カソード触媒およびカソード触媒担体と、アノード触媒およびアノード触媒担体と、の間に挟持されたプロトン交換膜を含んだ電極アセンブリ(15)と、前記アノード触媒担体と隣接するように配置された多孔質、親水性のアノード水輸送板(18)と、前記カソード触媒担体と隣接するように配置された多孔質、親水性のカソード水輸送板(22)と、を備え、
前記エラストマ封止材(29)は、外部マニホルド(27)を前記燃料セルに対して封止する領域における該燃料セルの縁部を被覆する、燃料セルスタック(11)において、
エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、前記水輸送板の各々の全厚の範囲に亘って前記エラストマ封止材の近傍に配置されることを特徴とする、燃料セルスタック(11)。 - 前記水輸送板(18,22)の各々における前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、挿入部(34)を備え、前記挿入部(34)は、エラストマ不透過性材料から予成形されるとともに、前記水輸送板のモールド成形時に対応する水輸送板と一体成形されることをさらに特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記水輸送板と接触する各挿入部(34)の縁部が、接着を向上させるための表面積拡大部(46,47;53;55;56)をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記接着を向上させるための表面積拡大部が、スロット(46,47)を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記接着を向上させるための表面積拡大部が、一つ以上の穴(55)を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記接着を向上させるための表面積拡大部が、波状面(53)を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記接着を向上させるための表面積拡大部が、リブ(56)を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、非エラストマのプラスチックを備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、金属を備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、前記エラストマ封止材の近傍にある前記水輸送板の各々の全厚に亘る細孔内に流動状に堆積させたのちにその位置で融解または硬化させた、可融性または硬化性の非多孔性、非エラストマを備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、非エラストマのプラスチックを備えることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、金属を備えることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料(34)が、ビスマス、鉛、スズ、およびカドミウムから選択された共融混合物を備えることを特徴とする請求項12に記載の燃料セルスタック(11)。
- エラストマ不透過性材料(34)を、水輸送板の各々の全厚の範囲に亘ってエラストマ封止材(29)の近傍に設けることを備えた、燃料セルスタック(11)における複数の多孔質、親水性の水輸送板(18,22)へのエラストマ封止材(29)のエラストマの浸入の防止方法。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料を設けるステップが、前記エラストマ不透過性材料から予成形された挿入部(34)を、前記水輸送板の成形時に各水輸送板(18,22)と一体成形することをさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記エラストマ不透過性材料を設けるステップが、流動状の可融性または硬化性の非多孔性、非エラストマの、エラストマ不透過性材料(34)を、前記エラストマ封止材(29)の近傍にある前記水輸送板(18,22)の各々の全厚に亘る細孔内に堆積させ、次いで前記材料を融解または硬化させることをさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の方法。
