Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a long arc type discharge lamp, and more particularly to a long arc type discharge lamp using a rare earth oxide as an electron emitting material of an electrode.
Conventionally, UV has been widely used in industries such as plastic surface modification, photo-CVD, photo-ashing, and UV curing, but long arc discharge lamps such as long arc metal halide lamps are used for such applications. Is used.
An electrode used for this type of long arc type discharge lamp needs to have the characteristics of emitting electrons and the characteristics of being hard to wear and deform even at high temperatures. As an electrode material satisfying these characteristics, tungsten (triated tungsten: ThW) containing thorium oxide (ThO 2 ) has been frequently used.
Triated tungsten (ThW) has a low work function of 2.6 eV, and can emit electrons at a low voltage. Therefore, thorium oxide functions effectively as an electron-emitting substance (emitter). This is because the lamp can be operated stably for a long time when discharged.
However, thorium is subject to legal regulations as a radioactive substance, and careful management is required for its management and handling. Therefore, an alternative substance to replace thorium is desired.
As an alternative to the thorium, materials using rare earth elements and their compounds have been proposed. Rare earth elements have a low work function and are excellent in electron emission, and are expected as substitutes for thorium.
Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 2009-259790 (Patent Document 1) discloses a long arc type in which tungsten, which is an electrode material, additionally contains lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3 ) or cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) as an emitter. A discharge lamp is disclosed.
However, since rare earth oxides such as lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3 ) have a higher vapor pressure than thorium oxide (ThO 2 ), they are relatively easy to evaporate. Therefore, when a rare earth oxide is used instead of thorium oxide as an emitter to be contained in the cathode, the rare earth oxide is excessively evaporated and depleted at an early stage. Due to the exhaustion of the emitter, the electron emission function at the cathode is lost, the blackening of the end of the arc tube progresses early, and the effective light emission length decreases. Then, there is a problem that the electrode is deformed at an early stage, flickering occurs and the lamp life is shortened.
In addition, there is a problem that the tube wall around the tip of the electrode becomes cloudy and devitrified due to increased evaporation of the emitter.
For this reason, in a discharge lamp using a rare earth oxide other than thorium as an emitter material, there are still problems such as unstable lighting at an early stage.
In view of the above-mentioned problems of the prior art, the present invention has a pair of electrodes opposed to each other in a long ultraviolet light-transmitting arc tube, and a rare gas and a metal as a luminescent substance are enclosed therein. In long arc discharge lamps that contain rare earth oxides and are lit with alternating current, the emitter (electron radioactive material) is prevented from being depleted early, and the arc tube is blackened and clouded, preventing long-term stability. The present invention provides a long arc type discharge lamp capable of obtaining the above-mentioned lighting.
In order to solve the above problems, the long arc discharge lamp according to the present invention has an average value of lamp current as I (ampere: A) and a volume from the electrode tip to 3 mm as V (mm 3 ). 0.4 ≦ (I / V) ≦ 1.0.
The long arc discharge lamp is lit by switching between a steady lighting mode and a standby lighting mode.
The metal sealed in the arc tube is a metal other than mercury.
Further, the pressure of the rare gas sealed in the arc tube before lighting is 6.6 to 53.2 kPa (50 to 400 Torr).
According to the long arc type discharge lamp of the present invention, the current value (I / V) per volume (V) in the vicinity of the tip of the electrode is optimized in the average value (I) of the lamp current. The lamp life could be secured.
That is, if the value of I / V is less than 0.4, the temperature of the entire electrode is too low, making it difficult to emit uniform thermoelectrons from the electrode, and an arc is generated only from a part of the electrode. . For this reason, the temperature rises locally only at the location where the arc is generated, the emitter is depleted at that portion, and blackening due to evaporation of tungsten proceeds later. In addition, the lamp may go out.
On the other hand, if the value of I / V is more than 1.0, the temperature of the entire electrode rises too much, and the emitter evaporates from the electrode, causing white turbidity of the arc tube.
The overall structure of an AC lighting type long arc discharge lamp according to the present invention is shown in FIG. 1. The long arc
The
As shown in detail in FIG. 2, in this embodiment, the
In the sealing
The
The weight ratio of the rare earth oxide is preferably in the range of 0.05 weight percent to 1 weight percent. If it is 0.05% by weight or less, it is difficult to produce a product with a stable weight ratio, and if it is 1% by weight or more, it is impossible to use because the scattering of the emitter is large and the cloudiness progresses at an early stage.
The
In this embodiment, the
FIG. 3 shows temperature distributions of the rare earth electrode of the present invention thus formed and a conventional tungsten (tritan) (ThW) electrode containing thorium oxide as viewed in the axial direction from the electrode tip.
In FIG. 3, the rare earth electrode is represented by a solid line (●), and the tritan electrode is represented by a one-dot chain line (線). The dotted line of 1 mm or less is obtained by extrapolating each temperature distribution curve.
As can be seen from FIG. 3, in this type of AC lighting type long arc type discharge lamp, an inflection point of the temperature distribution is seen in the vicinity of 3 mm from the tip of the electrode, and the temperature after 3 mm does not change much depending on the electrode material. From this, it can be seen that the portion from the tip to 3 mm has a substantial influence on characteristics such as electron emission and emitter evaporation.
Therefore, the present inventors verified the relationship between the volume V (mm 3 ) of the portion from the electrode tip to 3 mm and the average value (average current) I (ampere A) of the lamp current.
A value (I / V) obtained by dividing the average current I by the volume V of the electrode tip represents the current capacity of the electrode tip. That is, I / V (A / mm 3 ) indicates a value corresponding to the amount of heat per unit volume flowing from the discharge plasma to the electrode tip.
Since the lamp is turned on by alternating current, the RMS value (effective value) is used as the average value of the lamp current. The volume V of the portion from the electrode tip to 3 mm is the total volume of the electrode core wire and the electrode coil.
By the way, there is a type in which the long arc discharge lamp is turned on by switching between a steady lighting mode and a standby lighting mode.
Long arc type discharge lamps in this type of processing equipment have a steady lighting mode that irradiates the object to be irradiated (workpiece) with ultraviolet light and reduces the input current during non-irradiation, such as when the object is replaced. There are cases where the standby lighting mode is lowered and switched on repeatedly.
In that case, a time average of the lamp current in the steady lighting mode and the lamp current in the standby lighting mode may be taken and the value may be set to I.
I=(Ir×Tr+Is×Ts)/(Tr+Ts)
FIG. 4 shows how to obtain the average current.
In FIG. 4, the lamp current in the steady lighting mode is Ir (RMS value), the irradiation time is Tr, the lamp current in the standby lighting mode is Is (RMS value), and the irradiation time is Ts.
At this time, the average current I is
I = (Ir × Tr + Is × Ts) / (Tr + Ts)
It is represented by
In the long arc discharge lamp of the present invention, the I / V (A / mm 3 ) thus obtained is 0.4 or more and 1.0 or less.
If the I / V at the time of irradiation is less than 0.4, the temperature of the entire electrode is too low, and it is difficult to uniformly emit thermionic electrons from the electrode, and an arc is generated only from a part of the electrode. For this reason, the temperature rises locally only at the location where the arc is generated, the emitter is depleted at that portion, and blackening due to evaporation of tungsten proceeds later. In addition, the lamp may go out.
On the other hand, if the I / V at the time of irradiation exceeds 1.0, the temperature of the entire electrode rises too much, and the emitter evaporates excessively from the electrode, causing the arc tube to become cloudy.

The specifications of the three types of lamps that were tested are as follows.
<Experimental example 1>
An electrode containing the above rare earth oxide is used as an emitter.
Lighting mode:
During steady lighting mode: current 26.3 A,
From this condition, the average currents I and I / V are calculated as follows.
I = (26.3 × 30 + 14.4 × 30) /60=20.4 A
I / V = 20.4 / 21.2 = 0.96 A / mm 3
<Experimental example 2>
Similar to the lamp of Experimental Example 1, an electrode containing a rare earth oxide was used.
Lighting mode:
During steady lighting mode: current 36.4A,
From this condition, I = 25.4 A and I / V = 1.2 A / mm 3 .
<Experimental example 3>
Triated tungsten (ThW) is used as the electrode material. That is, the emitter is thorium oxide.
Lighting mode:
During steady lighting mode: current 32.3A,
From this condition, I = 23.35 A and I / V = 1.1 A / mm 3 .
Here, the comparison of the performance of each of Experimental Examples 1 to 3 is performed by comparing the illuminance at a position of 30 mm from the electrode tip to the discharge space side. At about 30 mm from the electrode tip to the discharge space side, the discharge arc spreads to the inner diameter of the discharge vessel. Therefore, the determination was made by comparing the relative intensity values after 2000 hours from lighting at a position of 30 mm from the electrode tip to the discharge space side.
If the value of the lamp using the rare earth electrode (Experimental Examples 1 and 2) is close to the value of the lamp using the ThW electrode (Experimental Example 3), it can be determined that the performance is equivalent to that of the ThW electrode.
The result is shown in FIG.
The illuminance at the center of the light emission length after 2000 hours in Experimental Example 3 (ThW electrode) is set to 1, and the illuminance at each measurement position in Experimental Example 1 and Experimental Example 2 is compared with relative values. The relative illuminance was compared in the range of about 60 mm from the electrode tip to the discharge space side.
As shown in FIG. 5, in Experimental Example 1 (I / V = 1.0), the illuminance on the side of the
On the other hand, in Experimental Example 2 (I / V = 1.2), it is about 80%, which is inferior to the conventional ThW electrode. This is presumably because the temperature of the entire electrode rose too much, and the emitter evaporated excessively from the electrode, resulting in white turbidity of the arc tube.
Thus, when using a rare earth electrode, if I / V = 1.0 or less, the same performance as a lamp using a conventional ThW electrode can be obtained.
As can be seen from the above, when an electrode containing a rare earth oxide is used as the emitter, the average current value per electrode volume near the tip of the electrode (3 mm from the tip) is in an appropriate range (I / V is 1.0 or less). As a result, it was possible to secure a practical life performance comparable to a conventional electrode using thorium oxide as an emitter.
By the way, as this value (I / V) becomes smaller at 1.0 or less, it approaches the performance of a lamp using conventional ThW as an electrode material. The uniform thermoelectron emission becomes difficult, and an arc is generated only from a part of the electrode.
In addition, in the above description, although the enclosure as a luminescent substance was demonstrated as mercury (Hg), it is not restricted to this.
A lamp that does not encapsulate mercury, for example, a lamp in which zinc (Zn) is encapsulated instead of mercury has an action that the ionization voltage of zinc is lower than that of mercury and easily ionizes, so that the arc tends to spread over the entire surface of the electrode tip. Therefore, the wear of the electrode can be made uniform, and the load on the electrode per unit area can be reduced.
In a lamp that does not contain mercury, it takes time for the metal (for example, zinc) enclosed instead of mercury to evaporate after lighting, and the internal pressure of the discharge vessel of the lamp rises slowly. For this reason, blackening tends to increase due to the evaporation of tungsten in the initial stage of startup.
In this way, tungsten evaporates and scatters at the beginning of startup, but the rare gas of the enclosed gas exists around the electrode, and the tungsten scattered from the electrode collides with the rare gas.
For this purpose, it is preferable to increase the noble gas sealing pressure to, for example, 6.6 to 53.2 kPa (50 to 400 Torr), and this increases the density of the rare gas around the electrode. Further, the frequency of collision between the rare gas and the rare gas increases, so that tungsten can be returned to the electrode again, and as a result, blackening due to evaporation of tungsten can be prevented.
As described above, in the long arc discharge lamp according to the present invention, when the average value of the lamp current is I (ampere: A) and the volume from the tip of the electrode to 3 mm is V (mm 3 ), 0. By using it within an appropriate range of 4 ≦ (I / V) ≦ 1.0, it is possible to obtain performance equivalent to that of a lamp that uses thorium oxide as an emitter material, which has been widely used in the past. Thus, it is possible to realize the lamp.
