切断速度の実験
1.94um波長で作動するフラッシュ組織蒸発ベースのレーザシステムを製造及び使用して生体外組織切断試験が行われた。使用したされたパルスエネルギは、ほぼ3.5mJであり、シリカベースの光ファイバ導波管を通じて送出し、パルス繰返し数は、400Hzであった。ファイバ先端をマウントに位置決めして固定した位置に保持した。豚の腎臓組織サンプルを有する移動可能な試験スタンドをファイバ先端の直前のビームを通じて移動した。組織サンプルの大体の長さは、2cmで、厚みはほぼ2mmであった。フラッシュ蒸発システムは、8秒でサンプル全体を断ち切った。システムは、毎秒長さ2.5mm×深さ2mmの切り込みを入れた。パルス当たりに除去された組織の容積は、6.28xl0-7cm3/パルスであった。この切断速度は、従来技術レーザシステムより飛躍的に高速である。例えば、隣接熱損傷なしのモードで作動するように最適化された流束量と共に類似のパルス繰返し数及び入射光スポットサイズを有するエキシマレーザシステムは、200倍の遅さである3.14x10-9cm3/パルスの速度が得られる。同様に、隣接熱損傷なしのモードで作動するように最適化された流束量と共に類似のパルス繰返し数及び入射光スポットサイズを有する光破砕ベースのエルビウムYAGシステムは、40倍の速度である、1.57x10-8cm3/パルスのパルス当たりに除去される容積が得られる。隣接熱損傷なしの切除に向けて最適化された流束量と共に類似のパルス繰返し数及び入射光スポットサイズを有する精力的な研究本位のフェムト秒システムは、同様に、40倍以上の遅さである、1.49x10-8cm3/パルスの速度が得られる。図6は、実質的に隣接組織損傷がない様々な形態の切除に関して切断速度を比較する棒グラフを示している。光化学、光破砕及びイオン化ベースのシステムは、一般的な手術用途のための適するファイバ送出手段を持たず、一般的に高低線送出に限定される。

ことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記第1の作動モード及び前記第2の作動モードは、露光中に混在することを特徴とする請求項156に記載の装置。

コントローラが、複数のパルスの各々が1nsと500nsの間のパルス幅とフラッシュ蒸発を誘発するように調節された5J/cm2と500J/cm2の間の前記治療部位での流束量との両方を有する第1の組のqスイッチパラメータと第1の組のポンプパルスパラメータとを有する第1のモード、及び複数のパルスの各々が該第1のモードの該パルス幅よりも少なくとも1.2X大きいパルス幅と該第1のモードの該治療部位での該流束量よりも少なくとも0.8X小さい該治療部位での流束量との両方を有する第2の組のqスイッチパラメータと第2の組のポンプパルスパラメータとを有する第2のモードで連続的に作動するようにqスイッチ及びポンプ源を制御する、
ことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記第1の作動モード及び前記第2の作動モードは、露光中に混在することを特徴とする請求項158に記載の方法。
