Abstract
Description
本出願は、参照により全体が本明細書に組み込まれている、2009年4月24日に出願した米国特許仮出願第61/172,355号の優先権の利益を主張する。

(2)符号化遅延:ビデオを表示するのに、別名で受信機、受信機端/受信端、または受信機アプリケーション/受信アプリケーションとしても知られるエンドポイントにおける復号器が、符号器からの、別名でイントラ符号化されたフレームとしても知られるIフレームを受信してからでないと、ビデオは復号され得ない。符号器におけるIフレーム間の時間間隔は、ほとんどの従来技術のシステムにおいて、要求される符号化帯域幅を低減するように一定(例えば、ほとんどのCATVシステムにおいて0.25秒以上)である。したがって、ユーザがチャネルを変更すると、受信機がビデオを復号することができるまで、0.5秒もかかり得る。さらに、Iフレーム間の間隔を大きくすることが符号化効率を高めることが、よく知られている。その結果、多くのIPTVサービスプロバイダは、チャネル変更時間を代償にして、より良好なピクチャ品質を得て、その結果、展開されているIPTVシステムにおいて数秒のチャネル変更時間が珍しくない。
(1)自然な順序:ビデオサービスプロバイダによって定義されたチャネルの順序、および
(2)ユーザによって選択された順序:GUIを介してユーザによって定義されることが可能な、ユーザの関心対象のチャネルの順序。このシナリオにおいて、チャネル順序は、自然な順序のチャネル順序とは完全に異なり得る。ユーザによって選択された順序には関心対象のチャネルのはるかに小さいセットが存在することが可能である。
チャネルが、ユーザのチャネルサーフィン挙動の方向による昇順または降順で、さらに自然な、またはユーザによって選択されたチャネル順序で受信機-復号器チェーンに割り当てられる。そのことは、例えば、ユーザが、リモコン上のチャネルアップボタンを押して、「次の」チャネルを選択するといつでも、サーバMBW制御ロジックが、送信されている「最低の」チャネルを表す階層化されたビットストリームを送信することを停止し、代わりに、自然なチャネル順序、またはユーザによって選択されたチャネル順序で「次の」チャネルに対応する階層化されたビットストリームを送信することに切り換えるようビデオエクストラクタに命令する。結果は、ユーザがチャネルアップまたはチャネルダウンを押すたびに更新されている、現在のチャネルの周りの利用可能なチャネルのスライドウインドウである。

Claims (25)
- デジタルビデオ配信エンドポイントにおいて複数のチャネルを処理するための方法であって、
a.第1のチャネルの基本層と、少なくとも1つの第2のチャネルの基本層と、存在する場合、前記第1のチャネルの所定の数の拡張層とを含む階層化されたビットストリームフォーマットで符号化された複数のチャネルを受信するステップと、
b.前記第1のチャネルの前記基本層と、存在する場合、前記第1のチャネルの前記拡張層とを復号するステップと、
c.少なくとも1つの第2のチャネルの前記基本層を復号するステップとを備える方法。 - 前記第1のチャネルの前記復号された基本層および前記復号された拡張層は、ビデオディスプレイ上のメインウインドウ内に表示される請求項1に記載の方法。
- 少なくとも1つのチャネルの基本層は、MBW内に表示される請求項1に記載の方法。

- a.第1のチャネルの基本層と、少なくとも1つの第2のチャネルの基本層と、存在する場合、前記第1のチャネルの所定の数の拡張層とを含む階層化されたビットストリームフォーマットで符号化された複数のチャネルを受信するステップと、
b.前記第1のチャネルの前記基本層と、存在する場合、前記第1のチャネルの前記拡張層とを復号するステップと、
c.少なくとも1つの第2のチャネルの前記基本層を復号するステップとを備えるデジタルビデオ配信エンドポイントにおいて複数のチャネルを処理するための方法を実行するためのコンピュータ実行可能命令が含まれている少なくとも1つのコンピュータ可読媒体。 - 前記第1のチャネルの前記復号された基本層および前記復号された拡張層は、ビデオディスプレイ上のメインウインドウ内に表示される請求項11に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- 少なくとも1つのチャネルの基本層は、MBW内に表示される請求項11に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- メインウインドウ内で前記第1のチャネルを観ることから第2のチャネルを観ることに切り換えることを要求するユーザ入力に応答して、前記第2のチャネルの前記復号された基本層が、前記メインウインドウ内に表示される請求項11に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- 前記第2のチャネルの前記復号された基本層を前記表示するステップは、ズームするステップを含む請求項14に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- メインウインドウ内で前記第1のチャネルを観ることから第2のチャネルを観ることに切り換えることを要求するユーザ入力に応答して、前記第1のチャネルの前記拡張層の少なくとも1つの拡張層の受信が終了される請求項11に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- メインウインドウ内で前記第1のチャネルを観ることから第2のチャネルを観ることに切り換えることを要求するユーザ入力に応答して、前記第2のチャネルの前記拡張層の少なくとも1つが前記第2のチャネルの前記基本層と一緒に受信され、さらに復号される請求項11に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- 前記第2のチャネルの前記拡張層は、前記第2のチャネルの前記基本層と一緒に復号され、さらに前記メインウインドウ内で提示される請求項17に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。

- デジタルビデオ配信システムにおいて複数のチャネルを受信するためのエンドポイントであって、
a.階層化されたビットストリームフォーマットで符号化された複数のチャネルを受信するように構成された複数の受信機と、
b.前記チャネルの基本層および拡張層を復号するように構成された複数の復号器と、
c.ユーザ入力を受け取るための、ビデオディスプレイを介してアクセスされるグラフィカルユーザインタフェースとを備えるエンドポイント。 - ビデオサーバが、IPネットワークを介して少なくとも1つのエンドポイントに複数のチャネルを送信し、前記チャネルは、階層化されたビットストリームフォーマットで符号化され、さらに前記エンドポイントは、前記チャネルを処理するための複数の復号器を含むデジタルビデオ配信システム。
- 第1のチャネルを観ることから第2のチャネルを観ることに切り換えることを要求するユーザ入力に応答して、前記サーバは、前記第1のチャネルの前記拡張層の少なくとも1つを送信することを停止する請求項22に記載のシステム。
