Abstract
Description
本特許出願は、2007年10月5日に出願され、その開示全体が参照によって本明細書に組み込まれる同時係属中の米国仮特許出願第60/977694号の優先権を主張する。
本明細書に記載される実施形態は、一般に、超研摩材物品などの被覆された物品と、超研摩材物品の炭化物基材などの炭化物含有物品にろう材金属を被覆する方法を対象とする。実施形態はまた、炭化物を含有する切削用部品又はその他の工具にろう材金属を被覆するためにコールドスプレー又はカイネティックメタライゼーションを用いるための方法を対象とする。
PCBNブランクを、カイネティックメタライゼーションを利用して銅粉末で被覆した。カイネティックメタライゼーションは、以下の条件、すなわち、16μmの銅粉末をノズルスロート径が2mmのスプレーノズルに20g/分で供給して、その粉末を350psiの圧力の500℃に予熱したN2ガスと混合する、という条件下で行った。その結果得られたスプレーの粒子速度は610m/secを超えていた。スプレーを50mm/secでPCBNブランクの全域に(炭化物側へ上向きに)、横方向に2mmずつ移動させて、PCBNブランクをカバーするため8mmオーバースプレーするように当てた。この被覆工程の効率は約20%であった(言い換えると、約80%の金属が溶融も付着もせず、再利用された)。得られた銅フィルムは、図4(被覆の底部断面、側面図)と図3(上面図、銅と未焼結(green)酸化銅のコーティングを示す)に示されているように、厚さが一様に0.1mm〜0.15mmであり、肉眼で見た粗さと色も外径58mmのブランク全体にわたって一様であった。図3と図4に見られるように、被覆には剥がれも割れもなかった。全てのコーティングが炭化物によく付着しており、粘着テープをろう材金属表面に押し付けてから剥がしても炭化物に付着したままであることができた。さらに、コールドスプレーで銅を被覆したPCBNブランクをEDMによって切断したところ、図3に示したEDM切断エッジに見られるように、被覆はEDMの間に剥離し又は割れを生ずることがなかった。
融点が670℃で粒径が63μmの予め合金化したCuZnSn(33:33:33)粉末を、空気中にて900m/secで、PCDブランクの底面のグリットブラスト(90グリットSiC)された炭化物表面にスプレーした。この合金の被覆は良好に付着して、0.08mmの被覆厚さまで堆積した。このCuZnSn被覆は、EDMによる切断で図4に示したように剥落も剥がれもしなかった。しかし、レーザー切断では、被覆に剥落が見られた。EDMで切断した部分の被覆を、通常のフラックスと方法を用いて標準的な誘導加熱のろう付けで試験した。適度の接合強度の結合が得られた。
上記の例2の金属粉末を、超研摩材ブランクのラッピングしたPCD表面に空気中にて900m/secで直接スプレーした。金属は良好に付着し、PCD上に0.1mmの厚さまで堆積した。
上記の例2の金属粉末を、HTMグレード超研摩材ブランクの表面に空気中にて900m/secでコールドスプレーした。被覆は良好に付着し、1mmの厚さまで堆積した。被覆の断面に剥離は見られなかった。
Claims (14)
- 炭化タングステン表面にろう材金属被覆を適用するための方法であり、該基材は金属含有量が約30体積%未満であるろう材金属被覆適用方法であって、
融点が1200℃未満の金属粒子を炭化タングステン表面にカイネティックメタライゼーションにより被着させること、
を含むろう材金属被覆適用方法。 - 前記被着の前に、
前記炭化タングステン表面に表面形状を付与すること、及び
前記金属粒子を500℃までの温度に予熱すること、
を更に含む、請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記被着させることが、
前記金属粒子とガスをスプレーノズルに供給すること、及び
当該金属粒子とガスを当該スプレーノズルを通して前記基材へ導くこと、
を含む、請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記導くことが、前記粒子とガスを500km/secと2km/secの間である速度、毎分50グラム未満である粒子の体積供給量で、前記基材にスプレーすることを含む、請求項3記載の方法。
- 超研摩材ブランクを作製する方法であって、
約2体積%と約30体積%の間の金属を含む炭化物基材に超研摩材層を適用すること、
該炭化物基材にコールドメタライゼーション法によってろう材金属の被覆を被着させること、及び
該被着後に、該ろう材で被覆された物品からブランクを切り取ること、
を含む超研摩材ブランク作製方法。 - 前記コールドメタライゼーション法が、カイネティックメタライゼーション、コールドスプレーメタライゼーション、電磁粒子加速、変形された高速空気燃料スプレー、又は高速インパクトフュージョンを含む、請求項5記載の方法。
- 前記被着させることが、
金属粉末とガスをスプレーノズルに供給すること、及び
該金属粉末とガスを該スプレーノズルを通して前記基材へ導くこと、
を含む、請求項5記載のプロセス。 - 前記導くことが、前記粒子とガスを500km/secと2km/secの間である速度、毎分50グラム未満である粒子の体積供給量で、前記基材にスプレーすることを含む、請求項5記載の方法。
- 前記金属粉末が微細な銅粒子を含む、請求項7記載の方法。
- 前記金属粉末の平均粒径が5μmと100μmの間である、請求項7記載の方法。
- 前記ガスが室温の空気を含む、請求項7記載の方法。
- ガスを23℃と500℃の間の温度に予熱することによって前記ガスを調製することをさらに含む、請求項7記載の方法。
- 粉末を周囲温度より高く1200℃より低いレベルに予熱することによって前記粉末を調製することをさらに含む、請求項7記載の方法。
- 前記導くことが、前記ノズルを通して40psiと500psiの間の圧力及び500m/secと1500m/secの間の粒子速度で前記ガスと粉末を導くことを含む、請求項7記載の方法。
