Abstract
【解決手段】OCB液晶をベンド転移させるための高電圧をリセット電圧としてOCB液晶の共通電極に印加するOCBモードを有する液晶表示装置及びその駆動方法であって、本発明に係るOCBモードを有する液晶表示装置は、毎フレーム初期や各画素のデータ印加前に、DC-DCコンバータの電圧を共通電極に印加してOCB液晶をリセットする。また、1フレームを、赤色と、緑色と、青色のフィールドとに分けて順次駆動する場合、各フィールド開始前に、DC-DCコンバータの電圧を共通電極に印加してOCB液晶をリセットする。前記DC-DCコンバータは、15Vから30Vを共通電極に印加する。前記リセット時、液晶の光透過率は、0(ブラック状態)になる。

ため、正確に階調表示できないという問題点があった。すなわち、現在、液晶に実際に供給される画素電圧(Vp)は、現在フィールド(例えば、Rフィールド)に供給される階調電圧(または階調波形)だけでなく、直前フィールド(例えば、Bフィールド)に供給される階調電圧(または階調波形)によっても決定される。
ンバータ400から出力される高電圧を液晶キャパシタ(CLC)の共通電極(com)に印加して、OCB液晶を迅速にリセットさせる。この時、液晶の光透過率は、0(ブラック状態)になる。

Claims (12)
- 多数のスキャンラインと多数のデータラインとが交差する領域に位置し、共通電極と画素電極及びOCB液晶とから構成された液晶キャパシタを含む多数の画素で構成された液晶表示パネルと;
前記多数のスキャンラインにスキャン信号を印加するスキャンドライバと;
前記多数のデータラインに階調データを印加するソースドライバと;
前記OCB液晶をベンド転移させるためのDC電圧を出力するDC-DCコンバータと;
前記DC-DCコンバータの出力電圧と共通電圧とを選択して前記共通電極に伝達するためのスイッチング部と;
前記液晶表示パネルに光を出力するバックライトを制御する光源制御器と;
前記スキャンドライバ、前記ソースドライバ、前記スイッチング部及び前記光源制御器の動作を制御するタイミング制御部とを含み、
前記多数の画素に階調データが印加される前に、前記スイッチング部は、前記DC-DCコンバータの出力電圧を前記共通電極に印加して前記OCB液晶をリセットし、前記ソースドライバは、前記スイッチング部で前記DC-DCコンバータの出力電圧を選択時に、前記階調データを印加しないことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記DC-DCコンバータの出力電圧は、
15Vから30Vであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記OCB液晶は、
前記OCB液晶のリセット時に、光透過率が0であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記バックライトは、
白色光を発光する白色LEDまたはCCFL(Cold Cathode Fluoresence Lamp)から構成されたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記液晶表示装置は、
前記多数の画素の共通電極上に位置し、前記バックライトから発光する光をフィルタする赤色、緑色及び青色のカラーフィルターを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記各々の画素は、
前記スキャンラインのスキャン信号に応答して、前記データラインを介して伝達される階調データを前記画素電極に伝達するスイッチングトランジスタと;
前記階調データを貯蔵する貯蔵キャパシタとを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 階調データが印加される画素電極と共通電圧が印加される共通電極との間に形成される
OCB液晶を備える多数の画素と、前記OCB液晶を高速にベンド転移させるための電圧を出力するDC-DCコンバータと、前記多数の画素に光を出力するバックライトとを含む液晶表示装置の駆動方法において、
(a)前記液晶表示装置の初期起動時に、前記DC-DCコンバータから前記OCB液晶に電圧を印加してベンド転移させる段階と;
(b)前記多数の画素のうち、第n-1の画素の画素電極に第n-1の階調データを印加する段階と;
(c)前記(b)段階後に、前記DC-DCコンバータから前記共通電極に電圧を印加して前記OCB液晶をリセットする段階と;
(d)第nの画素の画素電極に第nの階調データを印加する段階と;
(e)前記(d)段階後に、前記DC-DCコンバータから前記共通電極に電圧を印加して前記OCB液晶をリセットする段階と;
(f)前記(b)段階ないし(e)段階を繰り返す段階とを含み、
前記階調データは、前記(c)段階、(e)段階では印加されないことを特徴とする液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記DC-DCコンバータの出力電圧は、
15Vから30Vであることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記OCB液晶は、
前記OCB液晶のリセット時に、光透過率が0であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記バックライトは、
前記(b)段階ないし(f)段階の間に、光を出力することを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記バックライトは、
白色光を発光する白色LEDまたはCCFL(Cold Cathode Fluoresence Lamp)から構成されたことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記液晶表示装置は、
前記多数の画素の共通電極上に位置し、前記バックライトから発光する光をフィルタする赤色、緑色及び青色のカラーフィルターを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項11に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
