Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic EL device and an electronic device.
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, an organic EL device including a plurality of organic electroluminescence (hereinafter referred to as organic EL) elements for each pixel as a means for displaying information has been proposed in electronic devices such as notebook computers, mobile phones, and electronic notebooks. In general, an organic EL element has a configuration in which an organic functional layer including an organic EL layer (light emitting layer) is disposed between a pair of opposed electrodes.
As such an organic EL device, for example, Patent Document 1 discloses a configuration in which an optical resonator is provided to reduce the half-value width of the emission spectrum of each pixel.
In the organic EL device disclosed in Patent Document 1, an optical resonator structure is configured by a translucent reflective layer and a reflective layer sandwiching an organic EL layer as a light emitting layer, and a spectrum of light emitted from the light emitting layer. It is possible to realize a reduction in the half-value width, improvement in luminous efficiency, generation of coherent light, and the like. Here, in the case where an optical resonator having the same structure is formed for each color pixel, it is often difficult to optimize all colors. This is because when the structure of the optical resonator is optimized with respect to the emission wavelength to be optimized, it is necessary to greatly vary the film thickness of the organic EL layer for each color pixel. In particular, in the organic EL layer of a red (R) pixel, it must be made extremely thick, leading to an increase in driving voltage and a decrease in efficiency. In addition, although the color display range is generally narrow in an organic EL device, the color display range can be widened by introducing an optical resonant structure, while the light emission efficiency may decrease with the introduction of the optical resonant structure. .
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object thereof is to provide an organic EL device capable of suppressing a decrease in light emission efficiency while improving color purity by introducing an optical resonator structure. Another object of the present invention is to provide an electronic device with excellent reliability.
In order to solve the above problems, an organic EL device of the present invention is an organic EL device comprising an organic EL layer formed between a light reflective electrode and a light transmissive electrode, and the organic EL device The layer is configured to be capable of emitting a plurality of colors and configured to be capable of emitting one emission color for each pixel unit, and the transflective layer that transmits or reflects light from the organic EL layer includes: While the organic EL layer is sandwiched between the transflective layer and the light reflective electrode, the reflectance of the transflective layer in the pixel is different between pixels having different emission colors. It is characterized by becoming.
According to such an organic EL device, the transflective layer forms an optical resonator with the light reflective electrode, that is, the light emitted from the organic EL layer to the light reflective electrode side is Reflected by the reflective electrode, and as a result, resonated between the light reflective electrode and the transflective layer. And, as a result of resonance, the reflected light is transmitted through a wavelength that can be transmitted through the transflective layer. On the other hand, a part of the light emitted from the organic EL layer to the transflective layer side is transmitted through the transflective layer and the other part is reflected by the transflective layer. As a result, the light reflective electrode And the transflective layer. And, as a result of resonance, the reflected light is transmitted through a wavelength that can be transmitted through the transflective layer. As described above, the light transmitted through the transflective layer is emitted from the organic EL device and used for display. In the present invention, the reflected light is transmitted through the transflective layer after resonance. Therefore, the color purity of the light emitted from the organic EL device is improved.
Further, in the present invention, since the reflectance of the transflective layer is configured to be different between pixels of different colors, for example, among organic EL layers used, an organic EL layer having a relatively low color purity is used. In the included pixel, the reflectance of the transflective layer can be made relatively high. On the other hand, in a pixel including an organic EL layer with relatively high color purity, the reflectance of the semi-transmissive reflective layer can be configured to be relatively low. By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to minimize the reduction in light emission efficiency that may be caused by the introduction of the semi-transmissive reflective layer while maintaining the effect of improving the color purity by introducing the semi-transmissive reflective layer. .
In the organic EL device of the present invention, the organic EL layer is composed of a polymer organic EL material, and is configured to emit red, green, and blue colors, while the reflectance of the transflective layer in the pixel Can be configured to have a relationship of (reflectance at a red pixel) <(reflectance at a green pixel) <(reflectance at a blue pixel).
When a polymer organic EL material is used as the organic EL layer, generally, the color purity of red can be relatively high, while the color purity of green and blue (particularly blue) is relatively low. Therefore, as described above, the reflectance at the red pixel is relatively lowered, while the reflectance at the green pixel and further the blue pixel is relatively increased, so that the color purity of each color pixel is increased. Can be raised uniformly. Further, while uniformly increasing the color purity in this way, it is possible to suitably suppress the reduction of the light emission efficiency by reducing the reflectance in the red pixel originally having a high color purity.
As a method for making the reflectance of the semi-transmissive reflective layer different for each pixel, for example, the in-plane occupation area of the semi-transmissive reflective layer in the pixel can be made different for each pixel having a different emission color. In this case, when the organic EL layer is composed of a polymer organic EL material and configured to emit red, green, and blue colors, the area occupied by the transflective layer in the plane within the pixel is (red Occupied area of pixels) <(occupied area of green pixels) <(occupied area of blue pixels).
As described above, the organic EL device according to the present invention is characterized in that the reflectance of the transflective layer (for example, the occupied area in the plane) is increased in the order of red, green, and blue. It is good also as what does not form a semi-transmissive reflective layer. That is, in the organic EL device of the present invention, the transflective layer can be formed selectively with respect to green and blue pixels.
Further, for the green and blue pixels, a red absorption filter that absorbs red can be selectively formed on the light emitting side with respect to the transflective layer. In this case, even if a polarizing plate or the like is not provided on the light emission side (display surface side) of the organic EL device, the problem that external light reflected by the transflective layer is emitted from the organic EL device is solved. Will be able to. Therefore, it is possible to provide an organic EL device having high contrast, high color purity, and excellent IVL (current-voltage-luminance) characteristics. The light transmissive electrode may be formed on the inner surface of a predetermined light transmissive substrate, and the red absorption filter may be formed on the inner surface of the light transmissive substrate. In this case, by introducing the red absorption filter, it is possible to solve the problem that unevenness or the like is generated on the outer surface of the organic EL device, and it is possible to protect the red absorption filter by the translucent substrate.
Next, an electronic apparatus according to the present invention includes the organic EL device according to the present invention as a display unit, for example. According to such an electronic apparatus, it is possible to realize display with high color purity and high contrast.

FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of the cross-sectional structure of the display region in the organic EL device 1. FIG. 3 shows a cross-sectional structure of three pixel regions corresponding to red (R), green (G), and blue (B) colors. As described above, the organic EL device 1 includes the

In the

As described above, the
The
The

As shown in FIG. 3, the

Note that the hole injection /
The

Next, the cathode (counter electrode) 12 is formed on the entire surface of the light emitting
In the organic EL device 1 configured as described above, the
On the other hand, a part of the light emitted from the
As described above, the light transmitted through the
Further, in the present embodiment, the
In general, when an optical resonance structure is employed, although the color purity is improved, the light emission efficiency tends to be reduced. However, in this embodiment, since the reflectance (occupied area in the plane) of the
In the present embodiment, the
Furthermore, in order to make the reflectance of the

Then, a liquid composition containing a PEDOT / PSS material was applied as a material for forming a hole injection / transport layer by an inkjet method in the formed bank, and a thickness of 50 nm was common to pixels of each color.
Further, a polymer light emitting material is formed on each color pixel by an ink jet method. The film thicknesses at this time were 80 nm for red pixels, 80 nm for green pixels, and 70 nm for blue pixels. Subsequently, the
(Second Embodiment)
Next, a second embodiment of the organic EL device will be described with reference to FIG. In the
By introducing such a
