前記光出力部材を制御するための制御手段と、を具備する、魚の遊泳行動に影響を与えるための装置であって、
各光出力モジュールは水の中で少なくとも部分的な水没に適合しており、前記制御手段は前記一連の光出力部材から順々に出力される光により、前記通路に沿って動的な視覚刺激を提供するように前記光出力部材を制御することが可能である。
図1は、本発明の一実施形態に係る装置の概略図であり、魚を保持するための囲い12上で使用するために設置されている。本図面においては、装置10は、一連18の光出力モジュールに接続された適切な制御導線16を備えた制御コンピュータ14を含んでいる。各光出力モジュール20は、その上端部に光源22を有し、光源の下方に懸架された光ガイド24を備えており、光源と光通信を行っている。
直線路に沿って遊泳しない魚は、湾曲した遊泳軌道を維持するために必要とされる求心力の結果として、余分な損失を被っている(Weihs, 1981)。従って、最適遊泳速度は、1)魚の体長、2)保持している設備の半径(あるいは、魚の遊泳半径)、3)視覚刺激の回転速度に依存している。湾曲した遊泳路を維持するのに必要とされる、余分な遊泳損失を算出することにより(Weihs, 1981)、所定の大きさの設備における、(既知の長さの)魚の最適遊泳速度は、視覚刺激の回転速度を調整することにより制御可能である。
水流は、遊泳の余分な損失を受けるかもしれず、最適遊泳速度との関連で考慮される必要がある。たとえば、30cmの魚が、1体長/秒(BL/s)の最適遊泳速度を有しており、(たとえば、シーケージにおいて)当該時間の50%の間に、一方向水流の30cm/sの影響を受けている場合には、「直線」の最適視運動速度は、0.5BL/sに近似した速度に低減されるべきである。
装置が最初に起動されたとき又は光の速度が調節されるとき、設定速度に数時間にわたって(すなわち段階的に)、直ちにではなく、確実に到達できるようにすることが重要である。魚が動的刺激におけるあらゆる変化にゆっくり適応できるようにすることが必要であり、そうでない場合は混乱を引き起こし、そして魚は刺激の後に立ち後れることとなる(すなわち、最適遊泳速度で遊泳しなくなる)。
動的な視覚刺激の光の強度は、静的な視覚刺激(たとえば、シーケージの網目)を無効とし、背景の濁りを貫くように、十分に強くするべきであり、更に光の波長は、所定の養殖魚の魚眼の視細胞波長感受性に適合させるべきである。最適な光波長及び強度は、魚の行動の視運動反応を向上させる。
CCDビデオカメラが、環状タンクから1.3m上方に取り付けられ、1ビデオフレーム256×256画素の解像度で、1秒当たり10フレームでディジタル化及び解析が可能な、フレームグラッパ(Visionetics VFG−512 BC)を備えたコンピュータに接続されている。平面、黒色、長円形(1.5cm×3cm)のターゲットの幾何学的中心線が、一群の中の一匹の魚の鼻背部に、Vetbond(商標)により接着され、これがカスタマイズされたソフトウエア・プログラムを用いて判定され、そのx,y座標がRS−232ポートを介して、データ収集パッケージ(Labtech ノート)に送信される。魚の位置(x, y)データは、後で遊泳速度(すなわち、1秒当たりの体長における、遊泳累積距離)を算出するために、ハードドライブに格納される。
一匹のアジ(フォーク長(FL)=18cm)が、魚遊泳速度の制御において、視運動反応装置の効率を最初に判定するために、7時間にわたり探知された。
(3匹(13〜15cm)の群内における)、一匹の体長13.5cmマアジが、以下の点を判定するために、6日間にわたり探知された。
1)光視運動刺激に対する、魚の時間的な反応
2)非機械的視運動装置を用いた、魚の遊泳速度を制御するための、最適プロトコルに対する当初の洞察
サケの実験 1
魚の遊泳行動に影響を与える照明装置は、直径1.2mの魚用タンクに設置されていた。照明装置は、48の個々の発光ユニット、及び導光部材から構成されており、水平に等間隔にタンクの外周に配置されている。
4つの大規模な照明装置が、(スコットランド国)Agryll, Machrihanish所在の海洋環境研究所にある、4つの直径3mタンクに設置され、低水流環境下で大西洋サケのスモルト(2年サケ)を用いた成長実験が行われた。

Claims (24)
- 魚が遊泳可能なスペースを画定する魚用の囲いであって、前記囲いは通路に沿って配置された一連の光出力部材を有し、前記光出力部材は、前記一連の光出力部材から順々に出力される光により、魚の遊泳行動に影響を与えるために、前記通路に沿って動的な視覚刺激を提供するよう操作可能である囲い。
- 前記一連の光出力部材は、前記囲いの外周に設置され、前記魚遊泳スペースは前記一連の光出力部材の内部に配置されている請求項1に記載の囲い。
- 前記一連の光出力部材は、前記囲いの内周に設置され、前記魚遊泳スペースは、前記一連の光出力部材の外部に配置されている請求項1に記載の囲い。
- 前記一連の光出力部材は、魚のための実質的に連続する遊泳ルートを画定するように、実質的に閉じた通路を形成する請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の囲い。
- 海水、淡水の中に水没させるためのケージ、メッシュ、又はネットを有する請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の囲い。
- 前記光出力部材は、実質的に前記ケージ、メッシュ、又はネットを照射しないように、前記ケージ、メッシュ、又はネットの前記魚遊泳スペース側に配置された請求項5に記載の囲い。
- 複数の光出力モジュールを有し、各モジュールは、1又は複数の前記光出力部材を提供する請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載の囲い。
- 個々の光出力モジュールは、互いに独立して操作可能である請求項7に記載の囲い。
- 光出力モジュールの個々の光出力部材は、前記光出力モジュールの他の光出力部材とは独立して操作可能である請求項7に記載の囲い。
- 各光出力モジュールは、横方向の範囲よりも縦方向の範囲に大きな光出力を提供するように、細長く形成され、実質的に縦の細長い軸に配置されている請求項7又は請求項8に記載の囲い。
- 各光出力モジュールは、前記通路に沿って細長い請求項7又は請求項8に記載の囲い。
- 前記一連の光出力部材は、一連の動的な視覚刺激を提供するように操作可能である請求項1から11のいずれか一項に記載の囲い。
- それぞれが1又は複数の光出力部材を提供し、通路に沿って連続する前記光出力部材を構成するために、並べられている複数の光出力モジュールと、
前記光出力部材を制御するための制御手段と、を具備する、魚の遊泳行動に影響を与えるための装置であって、
各光出力モジュールは水の中で少なくとも部分的な水没に適合しており、
前記制御手段は前記一連の光出力部材から順々に出力される光により、前記通路に沿って動的な視覚刺激を提供するように、前記光出力部材を制御することが可能な装置。 - 各光出力モジュールは、少なくとも一つの光源及び少なくとも一つの光ガイドを有し、前記光ガイドは、魚に向かって光を方向付けるために前記光源からの光を導くよう操作可能である請求項13に記載の装置。
- 前記光ガイドは細長く、長さ方向に沿って実質的に均一に光を出力するように操作可能である請求項14に記載の装置。
- 前記光源は、前記光ガイド上に配置されており、使用において前記光源が水位より上に配置されている請求項14又は15に記載の装置。
- 前記制御手段は、1又は複数の動的な視覚刺激の数、及び/又は速度、及び/又は光度、及び/又は横方向の範囲を変化させるように操作可能である請求項13乃至16のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記光出力モジュールは、細長く、前記通路に沿って配置されている請求項13に記載の装置。
- 個々の光出力モジュールは、互いに独立して操作可能である請求項18に記載の装置。
- 光出力モジュールの個々の光出力部材は、前記光出力モジュールの他の光出力部材とは独立して、前記制御手段により操作可能である請求項18に記載の装置。
- 魚の視運動反応を刺激するための方法であって、通路に沿って配置された一連の光出力部材を有する囲い中の魚の位置を特定することを含み、前記光出力部材は、前記一連の光出力部材から順々に出力される光により、魚の遊泳行動に影響を与えるために、前記通路に沿って動的な視覚刺激を提供するように操作される方法。
- 魚をサイズで等級分けする又は漁を捕獲するために、所定の分岐路に沿って分岐した一連の光出力部材によって生成された動的な視覚刺激を用いて、前記所定の分岐路に沿って魚を導くステップを更に含む請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記囲いは、実質的に連続し、魚のための閉じたループの遊泳ルートを画定し、前記囲いは、水流を受ける大量の水の中に配置されており、前記水流は前記囲いを通して流れ、前記一連の光出力部材は前記囲いに対する速度で移動する視覚刺激を提供するように駆動され、前記速度は前記囲いに対する前記水流の局所的速度に従って前記閉じたループの周囲で変化する請求項21又は22に記載の方法。
- 前記動的な視覚刺激の速度は、前記閉じたループに沿った前記水流の速度に対して、実質的に均一に制御される請求項23に記載の方法。
