Abstract
Description
PVC%=100xVpigment/Vtotal
[式中、Vpigmentは、乾燥した塗膜に入っている顔料と他の非揮発物の体積であり、そしてVtotalは、Vpigment+塗料用媒体/樹脂の体積である]。臨界顔料体積濃度(本明細書では以降CPVC)は顔料を基準にした結合剤の量が充分でないことが理由で乾燥した塗膜の中に空気界面が生じる時のPVCであるとして定義する。数多くの塗料の体積特性はCPVCの所で劇的に変化することが良く知られている。PVCとCPVCの間の関係は典型的に非線形である。多くの場合、いろいろな塗料の比較は等しい低顔料体積濃度(equal reduced pigment volume concentration)(本明細書では以降RPVC)を基にして適切に行われる。RPVCを下記の式で定義する:
RPVC=PVC/CPVC
光沢等級の塗料が示すRPVCは屋外用または屋内用のいずれも一般に約1未満である。
Claims (10)
- カオリンを処理する方法であって、逐次的に、
グレーカオリンを超主要量で含有するカオリン原料に浮選を受けさせることでチタニア含有量が低下したカオリンを生じさせ、
前記チタニア含有量が低下したカオリンを高速の遠心分離にかけることで、少なくとも約70重量%が2ミクロン以下の大きさを有するカオリンを含有する粗流れと、少なくとも約80重量%が1ミクロン以下の大きさを有するカオリンを含有する微細流れを生じさせ、そして
前記微細流れに精製を受けさせることで超微細なカオリン顔料を生じさせる、
ことを含んで成る方法。 - 高速の遠心分離が約1,000から約10,000の「g」力を用いることを伴う請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記カオリン原料がグレーカオリンを少なくとも約75重量%含有して成る請求項1記載の方法。
- 浮選によって前記カオリンのチタニア含有量を約1重量%未満にまで低下させる請求項1記載の方法。
- 浮選が泡沫浮選、限外浮選およびTREP浮選の中の1つを含んで成る請求項1記載の方法。
- 更に、前記カオリン原料に浮選を受けさせる前に前記カオリン原料にデグリッテイングを受けさせておくことも含んで成る請求項1記載の方法。
- 超微細含水カオリンであって、粒子の少なくとも約97重量%が2ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約96重量%が1ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約89重量%が0.5ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約67%が0.3ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の表面積が少なくとも約23m2/gでありかつ粒子の輝度が少なくとも約91である粒子を含有して成る超微細含水カオリン。
- 粒子の少なくとも約98重量%が2ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約97重量%が1ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約90重量%が0.5ミクロン以下の大きさを有し、粒子の少なくとも約70%が0.3ミクロン以下の大きさを有しかつ粒子の表面積が少なくとも約25m2/gである請求項7記載の超微細含水カオリン。
- 粒子の輝度が約92より高い請求項7記載の超微細含水カオリン。
- 塗料組成物であって、
塗料用媒体を主要量で含有し、そして
請求項7記載の超微細含水カオリンを主要ではない量で含有、
して成る塗料組成物。
