Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置の表示輝度制御回路において、入射光との関係が対数である照度信号を線形信号に変換する対数−リニア変換回路106を有し、外光センサ101の出力が対数信号の場合は、対数−リニア変換回路106を介してリニア信号に変換し、外光センサ101の出力がリニア信号の場合は、対数−リニア変換回路106を介さないことにする。この対数−リニア変換回路106は、対数logの逆関数である指数関数回路に相当する。また、同じ対数出力照度センサであっても入出力特性が異なる場合は、前述の指数関数回路の設定を変更できるようにする。

Description
さらに、入力信号xが8ビットである場合を前提にして説明すると、y=1の時のx値をα、入力信号の最大値x=255の時のy値をβとしてj、kを求めると、式1は式2に変形することができる。これにより、縦軸に対数目盛りをとった場合のx軸交点と、x最大値の場合のy値を表わす2値(α、β)のみで所望の指数関数が規定できることが判る。
以上から、外部からα、βを入力することで指数関数の設定を変更できるようにすれば、入出力特性の異なる対数出力照度センサであっても所望のリニア信号に変換可能であることが判る。そして、バックライト制御回路にはセンサの種類や入出力特性によらず同様なリニア信号が入力されるため、所望のバックライト制御と液晶ディスプレイの視認性向上を実現することができる。
この計算は、単純な四則演算で可能である。次にこのx’を使用し、2のべき乗計算を2^x回路302で行う。この演算の詳細を示す。まずx’を整数・小数分離部303で整数部nと小数部mに分ける。このうち、小数部mは、2^m算出部304に送られ、計算テーブル305を使用して、2^mを計算する。この値を2^n倍することで計算結果が得られる。2^n倍は、単純なnビットシフト回路306で計算ができる。このようにして、計算結果yを求める。これらの回路によって、式2の計算が可能となる。
この式4をグラフ化したものを図5に示すが、関数を決定するパラメータはαのみとなり、全ての関数は、(x,y)=(255,2^16)の点を必ず通る直線となる。これは、入力xの最大値は必ず出力yの最大値2^16に対応することを意味する。
Claims (11)
- 周囲の照度を計測する外光センサが出力する照度信号に基づき、表示輝度を切り替える手段を有する表示装置の駆動回路において、
前記照度信号は、入射光との関係が線形である場合と、入射光との関係が対数である場合があり、
前記入射光との関係が対数である前記照度信号を線形信号に変換する対数−リニア変換回路を有する、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項1に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す演算は、指数関数である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項2に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記入射光と前記照度信号との関係が線形である場合には、前記照度信号を前記対数−リニア変換回路を通過させないことで該照度信号を変換せずに前記表示輝度制御回路における表示輝度制御に用い、
前記入射光と前記照度信号との関係が対数である場合には、前記照度信号を前記対数−リニア変換回路を通過させることで該照度信号を変換してから前記表示輝度制御回路における表示輝度制御に用いる、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項3に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記表示輝度制御回路に入力される信号は、前記照度信号であるリニア出力照度センサモードと、前記対数−リニア変換回路が出力する信号である対数出力照度センサモードがあり、
前記リニア出力照度センサモードと前記対数出力照度センサモードは、外部から切り替え可能である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項4に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す指数関数の係数は、調整可能である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項5に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す指数関数の調整値は、前記照度信号と前記対数−リニア変換回路の出力との関係における、任意の2点の座標値である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項5に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す指数関数の調整値を設定する設定レジスタを有する、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項7に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記制御レジスタに設定可能な値は、前記対数−リニア変換回路の出力との関係における、任意の2点の座標値である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項5に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す指数関数の調整値は、前記照度信号と前記対数−リニア変換回路の出力との関係における、任意の1点の座標値と、固定された1点の座標値である、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項5に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記対数−リニア変換回路が前記照度信号に施す指数関数の調整値として、任意の1点の座標値を設定する設定レジスタを有する、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。 - 請求項1乃至10のいずれか1項に記載の表示輝度制御回路において、
前記表示輝度制御回路は、表示装置が搭載される情報機器のボタン式入力部の照明強度を制御する、ことを特徴とする表示輝度制御回路。
