従って本発明にて凹凸のある係止部とは、エンドキャップの挿入部に設けた係止部に複数のエッジ状の突部を形成する趣旨である。
エッジ状の突部の形成例としては、モール端部への挿入方向に対する直角方向断面を、ノコ刃状にすることが挙げられる。
また、係止部のモール端部への挿入方向に対する直角方向断面を複数に分割すると、分割された係止部が個々にモール断面内側壁の軟質樹脂部に食い込む。
係止部と挿入部との連結部に弾性変形部を形成すると、モール断面内側壁と係止部とが咬合する際に、弾性変形部が弾性変形しモール端末に挿入しやすく、挿入後は係止部をモール断面内側壁側に向かって付勢する。
また、本発明に係るエンドキャップを用いたモールは薄型化でき、意匠性に優れる。

また、係止部と挿入部との連結部に弾性変形部を形成したことにより、エンドキャップをモール端末に挿入し易くなり、意匠面への歪み発生を防止でき、エンドキャップに抜け方向の力が負荷すると弾性付勢によりエンドキャップの係止部が食い込みモールから抜け難くなる。

なお、本発明に係るエンドキャップは、各種自動車用モールに適用できる。
エンドキャップ10は、ルーフモール50の端末に挿入するものであり、ルーフモール50端末の開口部を塞ぐ意匠部11を備えている。
意匠部11から、挿入部12がおおむね舌状に突設してある。
挿入部12には係止部13が設けてあり、係止部13のモール挿入方向両側には、スリット状の切り離し部13aを形成し、挿入部12との連結部には弾性変形部13bを形成している。
係止部13は、ルーフモール50端部への挿入方向に対し直角方向断面がノコ刃状の凹凸部を有し、意匠部11側から挿入部12側に向かって低く傾斜部13cを設けて徐変している。
係止部13の傾斜部が徐変していることにより、ルーフモール50の端末にエンドキャップ10を挿入する際には、凹凸溝がガイド溝の役割を果たし容易に挿入できる。
図1、図2に示した例は、両側の切り離し部13aの挿入方向おおむね中央部に係止部(モール内側壁当接部)13が位置するように配設し、係止部の意匠部側を挿入部12の肉厚より薄い、繋ぎ片で弾性変形部13bを形成したが、係止部が弾性変形する構造であれは、形状を問わない。
例えば、図5(イ)に示すように断面ノコ刃状の係止部13の意匠部側に挿入部12との切り離し部13eを形成した構造でもよく、また、図5(ロ)に示すように挿入部12と係止部13のつなぎ部に溝部13fを形成して係止部の弾性力を調整してもよい。
さらには、図6に示すように挿入部12に挿入方向と直角方向で係止部の前後に切り離し部13g、13hを形成し、係止部の挿入方向両側と挿入部12とのつなぎ間で弾性変形させてもよい。
