本発明に係るモールのエンドキャップ取付構造例を以下、ルーフモールに適用した例にて説明する。
図1に示すように自動車用のルーフモールは、モール本体10の端末にエンドキャップ20を取り付けてある。
モール本体10は、金属製の芯材と樹脂材とを複合成形した例になっていて、断面チャンネル形状になっている。
具体的には、自動車に装着した際に外装面となる表面部11の両側から側壁部12,12を折り曲げ立設し、さらにその先端側を断面U字状に表面部側に折り返した折返し部14となっている。
この折返し部14の裏面側の頂部が裏縁部13となり、この一部を切り欠いて切欠部16を形成することで、切欠部16の端末側が被係止部16aとなる。
この切欠部16は、チャンネル形状のモール本体の両側に形成されている。
また、表面部11,側壁部12,折返し部14にて、断面Cチャンネル状のガイド部15aがモール本体の両側に形成されている。

爪部24aは、図5(a)に示すように、切欠部16に入り込むように弾性復帰する際に、爪部24aの先端部から根元側に向けて広がる傾斜部24bになっているので、この傾斜部24bが切欠部16のモール長手方向の端部に形成される被係止部16aに沿って弾性復帰する際に、意匠部22を引き込み力fにて引き込む作用が生じる。
これにより、意匠部22とモール本体10の端部との隙間dが無くなり、エンドキャップの抜け防止とガタ付きを防ぐことが同時にできる。
なお、この係止状態を表面側から見た状態を図3に示す。
また、本実施例では、図6に示すように弾性部23の幅寸法dがモール本体10の開口幅寸法Dと概ね等しく、もしくは僅かに小さく設定し、係止部24の幅寸法dが両側の切欠部16の幅寸法Dと概ね等しく、もしくは僅かに小さく設定してある。
これにより、図6(b)に示すようにエンドキャップ20がモール本体10に対して、幅方向にも安定して取り付けられる。
