試験には、日本エスエルシー社から購入した体重22〜30gの雄性ddY系マウスを用いた。200mLのビーカーに深さ8cmになるように水道水を入れ、適宜温水または冷水を用いて温度を22℃に維持し、この中にマウスを入れて15分間泳がせた。24時間後、10%(w/v)の試験素材(マジョラムエキスおよびラズベリーエキス)を含む投与液をマウスに10mL/kg経口投与し、その30分後から6分間に亘って前述と同一条件でマウスを泳がせた。水泳開始の2分後から4分間にわたり、マウスが水中で手足を動かしているか観察し、動きを示した時間を合計して「自発水泳時間」とした。一般に、抗うつ作用や意欲向上作用を有する物質の摂取により、マウスの自発水泳時間が長くなることが知られている。
表1に示した通り、マジョラムエキス、ラズベリーエキス、もしくはアムラエキスの投与によりマウスの自発水泳時間が延長した。

試験には、日本エスエルシー社から購入した体重22〜30gの雄性ddY系マウスを用いた。マウスに10%(w/v)の試験素材(マジョラムエキスおよびラズベリーエキス)を含む投与液を10mL/kg経口投与し、その60分後に脳を摘出して線条体を採取した。線条体を10倍量(w/v)の生理食塩水中でホモジナイズした後、過塩素酸を添加して除タンパクを行った。酢酸ナトリウムを添加してpH3.5に調整した後、液体クロマトグラフィーによりセロトニンおよびノルエピネフリンの濃度を測定した。
表2に示した通り、マジョラムエキス、ラズベリーエキス、もしくはアムラエキスの投与により脳内のセロトニンおよびノルエピネフリン濃度が増加した。
