Abstract
Description
焦点に関する黄斑疾患、特にARMDの治療は、重大な問題を提起している。完全な状態の黄斑は、読書、運転等に必要な視力(しかしながら、周辺視には必要ではない)をもたらすので、その変性にとっての効果的な治療が無いということは、多くの人がますます周辺視だけを保持することを意味している。
この問題を解決するため、網膜を移動させることが提案された。より現実的な解決策は、黄斑からの像を健常な細胞がある網膜上の一点に動かすことであり、かくして、これら細胞は黄斑細胞と同じほど良く機能するわけではないが、適度の視力を保持できる。これは、とりわけ米国再審査特許第6,197,057号証明書において提案されている。
本発明のレンズは、従来型サイズのものであってよく、任意適当な材料から作られたものであってよい。かかるレンズの一般的特性は、公知である。新規なレンズを剛性又は疎水性材料で作るのがよい。適当な材料は、眼内レンズに用いられる材料であり、かかる材料としては、アクリレート及びメタクリレート、例えばポリメチルメタクリレートを含む疎水性ポリマーと親水性ポリマーの両方、シリコーンエラストマー、例えばジメチルシロキサンが挙げられる。
本発明のレンズの屈折力は、通常は1つだけである。各々互いに異なる屈折力を有する或る範囲のレンズを製作することができる。変形例として、本発明のレンズの屈折力を変える補助レンズを提供することにより、「ピギーバック方式(piggy-backing )」を用いることができる。
焦点の変化を必要とする任意の黄斑疾患の治療のために、水晶体の摘出後に本発明のレンズを用いることができる。新規なレンズは、ARMDの治療に特に有用である。水晶体/IOL及び米国再審査特許第6,197,057号証明書の図25、図27、図31及び図33に示す補助レンズに代えてかかるレンズを用いることによりその機能を目に見えるようにすることができる。
Claims (4)
- 一方のフェースとしてフレネルプリズムを有することを特徴とする眼内レンズ。
- 複合眼内レンズであって、請求項1記載のレンズを有し、前記複合眼内レンズが滑らかな表面を備えるよう前記一方のフェースを覆っている材料を更に有することを特徴とする複合眼内レンズ。
- 焦点の変更を必要とする黄斑疾患を治療する方法であって、患者の水晶体を請求項1又は2記載のレンズで置き換える段階を有することを特徴とする方法。
- 黄斑疾患は、加齢性黄斑変性であることを特徴とする請求項3記載の方法。
