Abstract

【課題】全てが金属製の容器と比較して、容器の総重量を減じ、かつ、サイクル寿命を延長できる複合材料で被覆されたアルミニウム製高圧ガス容器を提供する。
【解決手段】アルミニウムシェル22、複合材の被覆層20及びプラスチックコーティング24を有するガス容器である。アルミニウムシェル22は、外側面26と、貯蔵部30を構成する内側面28を有する。複合材の被覆層20は、アルミニウムシェル22の周りに設けられている。プラスチックコーティング24は、容器の内側面28に設けられている。

Description

本発明は、高圧ガス容器に関する。より具体的には、内部がプラスチックでコーティングされたアルミニウム製容器に関する。
高圧ガス貯蔵用として一般的に用いられる代表的な容器として、全てが金属(一般的にはスチール)の容器、金属シェルが複合材料で被覆された容器、プラスチックシェルが複合材料で被覆された容器の3種類がある。各容器の耐用年数は、充填サイクル寿命(fill-use cycle lives)が8,000〜10,000サイクルである。各容器には、長所と短所がある。例えば、スチール容器は高強度であるが重量が重い。複合材で被覆されたアルミニウム容器は軽量であるが、一般的には、充填サイクル寿命が短い。複合材で被覆されたプラスチック容器は軽量であるが、強度が弱く、破損しやすい。
これらの技術は、一般的には、2つの技術が組み合わされたものである。スチール容器を複合材料で被覆するのは、強度を維持しながら、シェルの薄肉化と軽量化を図るためである。また、スチール容器には、貯蔵流体との反応を防ぐために、独立したプラスチックライニングが施されている。
一方、複合材/アルミニウムの容器と、複合材/プラスチックの容器は、一般的にはスチールより不活性でありながら、軽量という利点を有するため、これらの2つの技術を組み合わせる必要は無かった。
複合材/アルミニウムの容器にプラスチックコーティングを施すと、全てが金属の容器と比べて、容器の総重量は減少し、サイクル寿命は、基本設計によって達成可能な寿命より有意的に延びることがわかった。より具体的には、複合材/アルミニウムの容器にプラスチックのコーティングを施すと、容器のサイクル寿命が約50%〜150%延びることが分かった。
<発明の要旨>
アルミニウム/複合材/プラスチックで構成された容器は、アルミニウムの内部にプラスチックのコーティングが熱融着された軽量で薄肉の容器である。アルミニウムのライナーは、外側が、複合材で被覆されている。複合材は、典型的には、カーボン又はアラミドと、エポキシ樹脂を母材とするガラス繊維フィラメントである。容器は、約500〜10,000psiの圧力範囲でガスを収容できるように設計されている。容器の容量は、一般的に約0.5〜500リットルである。そのような容器は、特に、自給式呼吸装置、家庭用酸素療法用容器、商業的航空用容器、天然ガスや水素自動車の燃料貯蔵用容器として使用され、また、軍事的用途や航空宇宙用途にも使用されることができる。
<望ましい実施例の説明>
図1に示されるように、容器アッセンブリ(10)は、弁組立体(12)と、高圧ガス容器(14)を含んでいる。弁組立体(12)は、当該分野で知られているどんなタイプの弁組立体(12)でよい。弁組立体(12)は、容器(14)を密閉的に係合(sealingly engage)できる構造を有しており、流体が弁組立体(12)を通過できない閉位置と、流体が弁組立体(12)を通過できる開位置との間で移動するように構成されている。
ガス容器(14)は、図2に示されるように、外側に複合材の被覆層(20)、アルミニウムシェル(22)及びプラスチックコーティング(24)を含んでいる。アルミニウムシェル(22)は、外側面(26)と内側面(28)を有している。内側面(28)は、貯蔵部(30)を形成する。アルミニウムシェル(22)は、夫々の端部がドーム形(34)(36)の細長い容器(32)であることが望ましい(図1)。貯蔵部(30)は、約0.5〜500リットルの流体を収容できることが望ましい。一方のドーム形の部分(36)は、首部に通路(38)が設けられており、該通路を通じて、流体は貯蔵部(30)に出入りすることができる。アルミニウムシェル(22)は、首部の通路(38)に、弁組立体(12)又は栓(図示せず)と係合するように構成されたネジ(40)が設けられている。
複合材の被覆層(20)は、容器の外側面(26)に設けられる。複合材の被覆層(20)は、フィラメント材料とエポキシ樹脂を含んでいる。複合材の被覆層(20)は、カーボン又はアラミドとガラス繊維材料であることが望ましい。複合材の被覆層(20)は、容器の外側面(26)の全体を被覆することが望ましい。容器外側面(26)に設けられる複合材の被覆層(20)は、複数の層(20A)(20B)(20C)にすることもできる。
プラスチックコーティング(24)は、容器の内側面(28)に施され、望ましくは、熱融着により接着される。プラスチックコーティング(24)は、例えば、ポリオレフィン樹脂、オレフィンポリマーブレンドのようなポリエチレン共重合体が望ましい。
本発明の特定の実施例を詳細に説明してきたが、当該分野の専門家であれば、開示の内容に照らして、そのような詳細に対する様々な変更及び代替を成し得ることは理解し得るであろう。したがって、開示した特定の構成は、単なる例示であって、特許請求の範囲及びその均等物に与えられるべき発明の範囲を限定するものではない。

Claims (16)

  1. 外側面(26)及び貯蔵部(30)を構成する内側面(28)を有するアルミニウムのシェル(22)と、
    アルミニウムシェル(22)の周りを包むように設けられた複合材の被覆層(20)と、
    内側面(28)に設けられたプラスチックのコーティング(24)と、
    を具えているガス容器。
  2. プラスチックコーティング(24)は、内側面(28)へ熱融着されている請求項1に記載のガス容器。
  3. プラスチックコーティング(24)は、ポリエチレン共重合体である請求項2に記載のガス容器。
  4. 貯蔵部(30)は、約0.5〜500リットルである請求項3に記載のガス容器。
  5. 複合材の被覆層(20)は、カーボン又はアラミドと、ガラス繊維である請求項4に記載のガス容器。
  6. 貯蔵部(30)は、約0.5〜500リットルである請求項1に記載のガス容器。
  7. 複合材の被覆層(20)は、カーボン又はアラミドと、ガラス繊維である請求項1に記載のガス容器。
  8. ガス容器(14)と、該ガス容器(14)を密閉的に係合できる構造を有する弁組立体とを具える容器アッセンブリであって、前記ガス容器(14)は、
    外側面(26)及び貯蔵部(30)を構成する内側面(28)を有するアルミニウムのシェル(22)と、
    アルミニウムのシェル(22)の周りを包むように設けられた複合材の被覆層(20)と、
    内側面(28)に設けられたプラスチックのコーティング(24)と、
    を具えている容器アッセンブリ。
  9. プラスチックコーティング(24)は、内側面(28)へ熱融着されている請求項8に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  10. プラスチックコーティング(24)は、ポリエチレン共重合体である請求項9に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  11. 貯蔵部(30)は、約0.5〜500リットルである請求項10に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  12. 複合層(20)は、カーボン又はアラミドと、ガラス繊維である請求項11に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  13. 容器(14)は、約500〜10000psiの圧力のガスを収容できる構造である請求項12に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  14. 貯蔵部(30)は、約0.5〜500リットルである請求項8に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
  15. 複合層(20)は、カーボン又はアラミドと、ガラス繊維である請求項8に記載の容器アッセンブリ。
