しかし、ステップ３５０において、視聴者が推薦された上位の「類似」番組を選択しないと判断される場合は、選択された番組より高い類似性メトリックを有する各「類似」番組と、視聴者によって最初に特定される番組との間で適合する各番組属性それぞれに対する重み付けｗｉが、ステップ３６５において減少される。尚、ステップ３６０及び３６５において調節される重み付けの量は一般的に小さく、これは、不安定性（スラッシング）を阻止するためである。このようにしてテレビジョン番組レコメンダ１００は、時間に亘ってどの類似番組が実際に視聴するために選択されたかを観察し、重み付けを段階的に調節し、従って、長い目で見ると、類似性メトリックＳＭは、視聴者の考える「類似番組」をより正確に反映するようになる。

１つの好適な実施例では、視聴者が、上位の類似番組を選択するか又は何も選択しない場合、ステップ３６０又はステップ３６５において重み付けはダイナミックに調節されない（というのは、類似性メトリックが誤っているということを示すものはないからである）。視聴者が、上位の類似番組以外の番組を選択する場合、このときは、重み付けは上述されたようにダイナミックに調節される。

図４は、本発明の実施例による電子番組ガイド４００を示すサンプル表である。具体的には、図４の実施例では、類似性メトリックが一緒にされて各番組が提示される。従って、視聴者は、電子番組ガイド４００を見て、高いスコアを有する番組を素早く見つけることが可能である。

前述したように、本発明の更なる変形は、試験される時間間隔に対し正規化される類似性メトリックに従って、テレビジョンのチャンネルを番組欄にソートすることが可能である。例えば、所与の３０分間において、番組欄は、類似性メトリックによって直接ソートされることが可能であり、例えば、最も高い類似性メトリックを有する番組は、番組欄のリストの最初に提示される。同様に、３０分以上の長い時間間隔において、正規化されるスコアは関心の時間間隔の間の各チャンネルに対し割当てることが可能であり、この場合、番組欄は、正規化されるスコアによってソートされることが可能であり、例えば、関心の時間間隔における最も高い正規化スコアを有するチャンネルは番組欄のリストの最初に提示される。

１つの例示的な実施において、チャンネルに対し正規化されるスコアは、以下のようにして計算可能である。最初に、所与の時間間隔において、そのチャンネルで放送される全ての番組の類似性メトリックｓ１、ｓ２、…、ｓｎ（ただし、０＜ｓｉ ＜１００）を求める。その後、各類似性メトリックｓｉは、重み係数ｗｉによって調節される。各チャンネルに対し正規化されるスコアは、調節される重み付けを有する類似性メトリックの和である（ｗ１＊ｓ１＋ｗ２＊ｓ２＋…ｗｎ＊ｓｎ）。重み係数は以下の通りに分かる。ｓｉが＞９５である場合、ｗｉは１００である；ｓｉが９５より小さいが５０より大きい場合、ｗｉは１０である。ｓｉが５０以下の場合、ｗｉは１である。これは、高い類似性を有する番組に重い重み付けを与え、あまり類似性の高くない番組には小さい重み付けを与える効果を有する（どちらでもない又は推薦されない番組に対しては単位重み付けを与える）。多くの推薦番組を有するチャンネルは、高い正規化スコアを有する。尚、この正規化スキームには変形も存在し、これは、当業者には容易に明らかとなるであろう。重み付けの実施において、重み付けは、番組の長さに比例してもよい。このようにすると、類似する１時間番組は、長い番組として同一の類似性メトリックＳＭが組み合わされる２時間番組とは等しくはならない。

Claims (11)

  1. 視聴可能なテレビジョン番組を表示する方法であって、
    視聴可能な番組のリストを得る段階と、
    ユーザが現在関心のある１つ以上の番組を得る段階と、
    上記視聴可能な番組と、上記現在関心のある１つ以上の番組との間の類似性メトリックを得る段階と、
    上記類似性メトリックの指示を含む上記視聴可能な番組のリストをユーザに表示する段階とを含む方法。
  2. 上記類似性メトリックは、上記視聴可能な番組と、上記現在関心のある１つ以上の番組のうちのそれぞれの番組との間で適合する各番組属性に対する重み付けスコアの和に基づく請求項１記載の方法。
  3. 選択される番組と、上記現在関心がある１つ以上の番組との間で適合する各番組属性に対する上記１つ以上の重み付けスコアを調節する段階を更に含む請求項２記載の方法。
  4. 上記類似性メトリックは、上記視聴可能な番組それぞれに対する類似性メトリックの平均である請求項１記載の方法。
  5. 上記類似性メトリックは、上記視聴可能な番組それぞれに対する類似性メトリックの最大値である請求項１記載の方法。
  6. 上記ユーザの上記現在関心のある１つ以上の番組は、電子番組ガイドを用いて指示される請求項１記載の方法。
  7. 上記ユーザが現在関心のある１つ以上の番組は、現在選択されている番組を用いて指示される請求項１記載の方法。
  8. 上記表示段階は更に、最も高い類似性メトリックを有する所定数の番組を表示する段階を含む請求項１記載の方法。
  9. 上記類似性メトリックに基づいて上記視聴可能な番組のリストをソートし、上記視聴可能な番組のソートされたリストを生成する段階と、
    上記視聴可能な番組のソートされた上記リストを表示する段階とを含む請求項１記載の方法。
  10. 視聴可能なテレビジョン番組を表示するシステムであって、
    コンピュータ読取り可能なコードを格納するメモリと、
    上記メモリに動作上接続されるプロセッサとを含み、
    上記プロセッサは、視聴可能な番組のリストを得、ユーザが現在関心のある１つ以上の番組を得、上記視聴可能な番組と上記現在関心のある１つ以上の番組との間の類似性メトリックを得、更に、上記類似性メトリックの指示を含む上記視聴可能な番組のリストをユーザに表示するよう構成されるシステム。
  11. 上記プロセッサは、
    上記類似性メトリックに基づいて上記視聴可能な番組のリストをソートし、上記視聴可能な番組のソートされたリストを生成し、且つ、上記視聴可能な番組のソートされた上記リストを表示するよう構成される請求項１０記載のシステム。
