Abstract
Description
【0001】

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Next, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings according to examples.
(First embodiment)
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a circuit board having an inductor and a counter electrode with an opening according to a first embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a top view of the inductor 105. This circuit board is a printed circuit board composed of four wiring layers and three insulating layers therebetween, and these four wiring layers are formed from the top by a

With such a structure in which an opening is provided in the ground electrode, it is possible to reduce the occurrence of eddy current generated in the ground electrode, thereby suppressing a decrease in the magnetic flux of the inductor due to the eddy current. , The inductance can be increased. At the same time, the parasitic capacitance generated between the inductor and the ground electrode can be reduced by the opening, and the self-resonant frequency of the inductor can be increased.

Next, a method of manufacturing the circuit board according to the present embodiment will be described. The circuit board of this embodiment is formed by a batch lamination method. The
Next, a conductive paste is filled in the via holes 110 and 111 to form
In this embodiment, the circuit board is manufactured by the batch lamination method, but the manufacturing method is not limited to this. For example, a build-up method in which wiring is sequentially stacked from the lower layer may be used. In this case, the wiring pattern can be formed by any one of an etching method (subtractive method), a plating method (additive method), a thick film method (screen printing method), and a thin film method. For example, a conductive plug that fills a via hole or a plated through hole that covers a side wall of an opening (via hole) with a plating film can be used.
In this embodiment, the ground electrode is used as an example of the counter electrode having the opening. However, if the electrode is opposed to the inductor, the inductance can be similarly increased by providing the opening. Examples of the counter electrode include a power supply electrode, a capacitor electrode, an external connection electrode, and the like, in addition to the ground electrode. The circuit board material is not limited to a resin material, and a ceramic or glass substrate can be used, or a combination of these materials can be used.
[0011]
(Modification 1)
In the first embodiment, a layered substrate is used, and interlayer connection is made by via holes. While a via hole by a laser beam can connect only adjacent wiring layers, there is a method of connecting all layers of a substrate using a through-hole. An example in which the circuit board of the present invention is realized using the through-holes is shown as a first modification.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing a circuit board of the present modified example. 5, the same components as those of the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals. The difference from FIG. 1 is that the interlayer connection between the

Next, a method of manufacturing a circuit board according to the present modification will be described. Three copper-clad laminates using glass epoxy or the like as a substrate material are prepared, and the copper-clad laminate used as an inner layer is etched to form inner layer patterns such as wiring, terminals, electrodes, and spiral inductors. Next, the three substrates are laminated and bonded via a prepreg, and then a through-hole is formed using a drill machine or the like to penetrate the
In the present modification, the outermost layer pattern is formed by the panel plating method, but the pattern forming method is not limited to this, and another method such as a pattern plating method may be used.
[0013]
(Second embodiment)
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. In the first embodiment, the inductor is formed by etching the copper foil of the copper clad laminate, but in the present embodiment, the inductor is formed by using a thin film technique.
FIG. 6 shows a cross-sectional view of a circuit board incorporating the thin-film inductor of this embodiment. 6, the same components as those of the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 are denoted by the same reference numerals. That is, the
As specific numerical values of each dimension, the wiring width w of the inductor is 25 μm, the wiring interval s is 25 μm, and the thickness of the insulating carrier is 25 μm. By forming the inductor using a thin film process, it is possible to make the wiring width, wiring interval, and the like finer than when the inductor is formed using a normal conductor pattern forming process for a circuit board. As a result, the degree of freedom in design is increased, and the size of the inductor itself can be reduced.

In the case of a circuit board incorporating a thin film inductor as an inductor as in the present embodiment, by providing an opening in the adjacent ground electrode, the inductance of the inductor and the self-resonance frequency are increased according to the same principle as in the first embodiment. Can be done.
[0015]
(Third embodiment)
In the first and second embodiments, the shape of the opening of the ground electrode was circular.
However, the shape of the opening is not limited to this. In this embodiment, a shape other than a circle is shown as an opening for increasing the inductance of the inductor and the self-resonant frequency.
FIG. 8 is a perspective view showing only a wiring layer on which an inductor is formed and a wiring layer on which a counter electrode is formed, of a circuit board including the inductor of the present embodiment. Reference numeral 801 denotes an inductor; 802, a counter electrode; and 803, a donut-shaped opening formed in the counter electrode 802 in a ring shape. φ i Is the inner radius of the donut-shaped opening 803 (hereinafter referred to as the inner diameter of the opening), φ o Is the outer radius of the donut-shaped opening (hereinafter referred to as the outer diameter of the opening). The center of the donut-shaped opening is located at the position of the perpendicular leg lowered from the center of the inductor 801 to the plane electrode. The dimensions of the inductor 801 are the same as those of the first embodiment shown in FIG. i Is 0.9 mm. The size of the donut-shaped opening is determined by the inner diameter φ of the opening. i Is r i 0.9mm equal to the opening diameter φ o Is r i 2.7 mm, which is three times as large as
That is, the donut-shaped opening is centered on the position of the perpendicular foot lowered from the center of the inductor to the counter electrode, and the inner diameter of the opening is equal to the inner diameter of the inductor (φ i = R i ), The outer diameter of the opening is three times the inner diameter of the inductor (φ o = 3r i ). The reason for this is that eddy current and parasitic capacitance are remarkably generated when an electrode is present in a portion where the donut-shaped opening exists. Conversely, by providing an opening in this portion, the eddy current and parasitic capacitance are remarkable. This is because the inductance and the self-resonant frequency increase significantly.
[0016]
FIG. 9 shows a characteristic diagram of the inductor that supports this. FIG. 9 shows the inductance of the inductor when a donut-shaped opening is provided in the counter electrode by simulation. The horizontal axis of the graph is the inner diameter φ of the donut-shaped opening i Is the inner diameter r of the inductor. i The vertical axis of the graph is the inductance. The outside diameter of the donut-shaped opening is calculated by adding the inside diameter r of the inductor to the inside diameter of the opening. i (Φ o = Φ i + R i ). As can be seen from FIG. i ≤φ i ≦ 2r i (2r i ≤φ o ≦ 3r i In the case of ()), the inductance is significantly increased. That is, in the counter electrode, the radius r on the inner side of the inductor is centered on the perpendicular leg lowered from the center of the inductor to the counter electrode. i And the radius φ is r i ≦ φ ≦ 3r i The inductance can be increased by providing the opening in the range represented by. Also, as can be seen from FIG. i = 1 (φ i = R i = 1.8mm, φ o = 2r i = 3.6 mm,), the inductance is maximum. From this, it can be seen that it is most desirable that the opening includes a portion facing the circling portion of the inductor and covers a somewhat larger area.
In the example shown in FIG. 8, the conductive pattern at the center of the donut-shaped opening is separated from the main body of the counter electrode 802. However, in order to make both conductive patterns the same potential, the conductive pattern inside and outside the donut-shaped opening is formed. The character patterns may be connected by a thin pattern.
[0017]
The opening provided in the counter electrode is represented by the donut-shaped opening of this embodiment. i ≦ φ ≦ 3r i By including part or all of the range, the inductance can be increased. Therefore, the shape of the opening is not limited to a circle or a donut as long as the opening includes a part of the range.
FIG. 10 shows another example of the shape of the opening. FIGS. 10A to 10D are top views of a counter electrode having an opening. 1001 is a radius r on the inner side of the inductor, centered on a perpendicular foot lowered from the center of the inductor to the counter electrode. i Represents a fictitious circle having a radius of.

In particular, when the increase in L is greater than the decrease in C, the self-resonant frequency decreases as can be seen from
[0018]
As described above, depending on the shape of the opening, both the eddy current and the parasitic capacitance are not always reduced. That is, when the shape of the opening is such that only the eddy current is reduced and the parasitic capacitance is reduced only slightly, the inductance increases but the self-resonant frequency decreases. Conversely, when the shape of the opening is such that the eddy current hardly changes but the parasitic capacitance is greatly reduced, the inductance hardly changes but the self-resonant frequency increases. However, in any case, since the opening is located in a part of the region between the
As in the above example, the opening of the counter electrode of the inductor is within a range of not less than three times the inner radius of the inductor and not less than the inner radius of the inductor from the perpendicular leg lowered from the center of the inductor to the counter electrode. Is provided, the inductance of the inductor and the self-resonance frequency can be increased. Since the increase in the inductance and the self-resonant frequency increases as the aperture ratio in the above range of the counter electrode increases, it is most desirable to provide an opening including the entire range. However, even when the opening ratio of the opening provided in the counter electrode is small, the opening has the effect of reducing the eddy current and the parasitic capacitance. This has the effect of increasing any of the self-resonant frequencies.
[0019]
(Fourth embodiment)
In the first and second embodiments, as shown in FIG. 2, the inductor used was a circular inductor formed by circling a wiring pattern in a circular shape. However, the shape of the inductor is not limited to this. In this embodiment, an example of a circuit board having an inductor element other than a circular inductor will be described.
FIG. 11 is a perspective view of a circuit board using a square inductor as the inductor, and FIG. 12 is a top view of the square inductor 1101. 11, the same components as those of the circuit board of the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals. Since the operation of this embodiment is the same as that of the first embodiment, a detailed description will be omitted.
A method of obtaining the center and the inner diameter of the rectangular inductor will be described with reference to FIG. The inductor includes a circulating
FIG. 12 shows an example of a rectangular inductor in which a wiring pattern is formed in a rectangular shape, but the wiring pattern may be formed in another polygonal shape to form an inductor. These inductors are also constituted by a circulating portion of the wiring and a lead wire portion or terminals for interlayer connection, but the center and the inner diameter of the inductor are the center and radius of a circle inscribed in the circulating portion of the wiring, as in the above example. . In this manner, the center and the inner diameter of the inductor are determined, and as described in the third embodiment, the distance between the center of the inductor and the foot of the perpendicular drawn from the center of the inductor to the counter electrode is equal to or more than the inner diameter of the inductor. By providing the opening in a range within three times the inner diameter, the inductance of the inductor and the self-resonant frequency can be increased.
[0020]
(Modification 1)
As another example of the inductor, FIG. 13 is a perspective view of a circuit board using a multilayer inductor in which wiring patterns are wound around and stacked. The circuit board shown in FIG. 13 includes seven wiring layers and six insulating layers therebetween, and includes, from the top, a
How to determine the center and inner diameter of such a multilayer inductor will be described. For the sake of explanation, an orthogonal coordinate system is introduced, the stacking direction is defined as the z direction, and the plane on which the wiring layer is located is defined as the xy plane. First, the center and radius of a circle inscribed in the circling portion are determined in each wiring layer provided with the circulating wiring pattern, as in the case of the planar inductor. In the case of the circuit board in FIG. 13, the inscribed circle is determined in each of the
By providing an opening in the counter electrode with reference to the center and the inner diameter of the inductor thus obtained, the inductance and the self-resonant frequency can be increased even in the case of a multilayer inductor.
[0021]
(Modification 2)
As another example of an inductor, an example of a circuit board using an inductor in which a wiring pattern is not circularly or polygonally circulated asymmetrically will be described.
FIG. 14 shows a top view of the inductor of this modification.
By providing an opening in the counter electrode with reference to the center and the inner diameter of the inductor thus obtained, the inductance and the self-resonance frequency of the inductor can be increased.
