人に不快感を与える腋臭、足臭、頭皮臭、汗臭などの体臭は、汗が皮脂と混ざり、それが皮膚常在菌により分解されることにより生じるとされている。また、皮脂由来の油性成分が酸化されることにも起因しているとされている。これら体臭を抑えるために、従来の防臭化粧料には、制汗剤や殺菌剤などを配合する試みがなされたり、また、発生した体臭を抑制するために、香料によるマスキングや物理的吸着による臭気物質の除去などの試みがなされている。さらには、酸化防止剤により皮脂の酸化抑制による防臭・消臭の試みもなされている。しかし、従来の防臭化粧料は、塗布した直後はその効果を発揮するものの、汗によりこれら成分が流れ落ち、防臭・消臭効果が持続して得られないといった問題があった。

塩化リゾチームとは、細菌細胞膜の構成成分である多糖類の加水分解酵素であり、溶菌作用、抗炎症作用、止血作用、組織修復作用等の薬理作用を有している。また、塩化リゾチームは、通常、卵白から製造されるが、市販品として入手することもできる。本発明に用いられる塩化リゾチームとしては、特に限定されないが、例えば、市販品として、商品名塩化リゾチーム（エーザイ株式会社製）等を用いることができる。
