a)該受容体に、該化合物および請求項16に記載のペプチドを提供する工程、および
b)該ペプチドの該受容体への結合を阻害する該化合物の能力を測定する工程、

X 6 is arginine, alanine, leucine, glycine, lysine, proline, asparagine, serine, histidine, nitro arginine, norleucine or des - amino - arginine, or is any of their derivatives, wherein the derivative corresponding D-amino acids;
X 7 is cysteine, homocysteine or penicillamine, or is any of their derivatives, wherein the derivative is in the corresponding D- amino acids;
X 8 is methionine, norleucine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, methionine sulfoxide or methionine sulfone, or is any of their derivatives, wherein the derivative corresponding N- alkyl - an amino acid;
X 9 is located leucine, isoleucine, valine, alanine or either methionine;
X 10 is glycine, alanine, leucine, norleucine, cyclohexylalanine, asparagine, serine, sarcosine, .gamma.-aminobutyric acid, is a D- leucine, D- norleucine or D- proline, or any of their derivatives, wherein Wherein said derivative is the corresponding N-alkyl-amino acid;
X 11 is arginine, lysine, citrulline, histidine or nitro arginine, or is any of their derivatives, wherein the derivative corresponding N- alkyl - an amino acid;
X 12 is located valine, leucine, isoleucine, alanine or either methionine;
X 13 is phenylalanine, tyrosine, D- (p-benzoylphenylalanine), tryptophan, (1 ′)-and (2 ′)-naphthylalanine, cyclohexylalanine, or each substituent is O-alkyl, alkyl, OH, NO 2 , any of mono- and polysubstituted phenylalanines independently selected from the group consisting of NH 2 , F, I, and Br;
X 14 is any of arginine, lysine, histidine, or noarginine;
X 15 is not proline, alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, be either methionine or sarcosine;
X 16 is cysteine, homocysteine or penicillamine, or is any of their derivatives, wherein the derivative is in the corresponding D- amino acids;
Z 1 is an optional protecting group, and when present, is covalently linked to the N-terminal amino group;
Z 2 is an optional protecting group, and when present, is covalently attached to the C-terminal carboxy group.
Or a labeled derivative of said peptide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of said peptide or said labeled derivative.
2. The peptide of claim 1, wherein the detectable label, when present, is 125 I.
3. The peptide of claim 2, wherein said peptide does not contain a detectable label.
4. The peptide according to claim 3 , wherein Z 1 is —C (O) CH 3 and Z 2 is —NH 2 .
5. The peptide of any one of SEQ ID NO: 28, SEQ ID NO: 31, SEQ ID NO: 32, SEQ ID NO: 33, SEQ ID NO: 34, SEQ ID NO: 35, SEQ ID NO: 40, SEQ ID NO: 63 or SEQ ID NO: 67. Item 4. The peptide according to item 3, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the peptide.
6. A method for selecting a compound capable of binding to a melanin-concentrating hormone receptor, comprising:
a) providing the compound and the peptide of claim 2 to the receptor; and b) measuring the ability of the compound to inhibit the binding of the peptide to the receptor.

Wherein said compound is identified as capable of binding to said receptor if said compound inhibits binding of said peptide to said receptor.

The peptide comprises SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 15, SEQ ID NO: 24, SEQ ID NO: 25, SEQ ID NO: 27, SEQ ID NO: 30, SEQ ID NO: 39, SEQ ID NO: 42, SEQ ID NO: 43, SEQ ID NO: 44, SEQ ID NO: SEQ ID NO: 45, SEQ ID NO: 47, SEQ ID NO: 48, SEQ ID NO: 49, SEQ ID NO: 51, SEQ ID NO: 52, SEQ ID NO: 56, SEQ ID NO: 57, SEQ ID NO: 62, SEQ ID NO: 65, SEQ ID NO: 66 or SEQ ID NO: 77 9. The peptide of claim 8, a labeled derivative of the peptide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the peptide or the labeled derivative, wherein the labeled derivative, if present, is a radiolabel.
10. The peptide according to claim 9, wherein the peptide is SEQ ID NO: 7, a labeled derivative of the peptide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the peptide or the labeled derivative.
11. A method for selecting a compound capable of binding to a melanin-concentrating hormone receptor, comprising:
a) providing the compound and the peptide of claim 8 to the receptor; and b) measuring the ability of the compound to inhibit the binding of the peptide to the receptor.

12. A method for selecting a compound capable of binding to a melanin-concentrating hormone receptor, comprising:

The peptide according to claim 13, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
15. The peptide according to claim 14, wherein the peptide is SEQ ID NO: 7, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the peptide.
16. An optionally substituted peptide consisting of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 8, a labeled derivative of the peptide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the peptide or the labeled derivative.
17. The peptide according to claim 16, wherein said peptide consists of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 8.
18. A method for selecting a compound capable of binding to a melanin-concentrating hormone receptor, comprising:
a) providing the compound and the peptide of claim 16 to the receptor; and b) measuring the ability of the compound to inhibit binding of the peptide to the receptor.

Wherein said compound is identified as capable of binding to said receptor if said compound inhibits binding of said peptide to said receptor.
