【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上述の技術においては、CMに指示を書き込めば、外部記憶装置内の全てのLUに対して指示を出すことが可能となるが、逆にこれにより次の問題が生じる。外部記憶装置は複数のホスト計算機と接続できるが、アクセス可能なLUを各ホスト毎に制限している。したがって、あるホスト計算機からのカップリング操作の指示は、当該ホスト計算機が扱えるLUのみに制限させる必要がある。しかし、従来のホスト計算機上のアプリケーションには、操作しようとするLUが実際に操作しようとするホスト計算機上で扱っているLUであるか否かを確認する手段が存在しないため、別のホスト計算機が扱っているLUに対して指示してしまう結果、データ破壊につながってしまう。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明による外部記憶装置は一つまたは複数のディスクアレイコントローラと複数のハードディスクドライブで構成され、複数の物理ハードディスクドライブとは全く関連性のない論理ユニットを仮想的に定義し、ホスト計算機からはこの論理ユニットをハードディスクドライブとして使用することができる。
ここで論理ユニットのうち少なくとも１つをカップリング制御専用とし、通常のホスト計算機からの読み書きをする論理ユニットと区別する。カップリングを制御するホストプログラムはこの制御専用論理ユニット(CM)への読み書きによりカップリング制御を行う。ホスト計算機は別ポート間でこの制御専用論理ユニット(CM)を共有して使用することもできる。この際に別々のグループで一つの論理ユニットを共有した際にはそれぞれはホスト計算機からは独立したCMとして機能する。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の第一の実施例を図１を用いて説明する。図１は、ホスト計算機と本発明の外部記憶装置で構成される計算機システムのシステム構成図である。２つのホスト計算機100と外部記憶装置200が物理インタフェースはFiber Channel、論理インタフェースはSCSIで接続されている。ホスト計算機100はWWN-a,WWN-bのWWN(World Wide Name)を持つアダプタ120,121を有し、これらのアダプタ120,121で、ホスト計算機100をそれぞれ外部記憶装置200のアダプタ210,211に接続している。

Claims (6)

  1. 複数の論理ユニットを持つ外部記憶装置であって、
    当該外部記憶装置は少なくとも１台で構成されており、
    複数のホスト計算機からのSCSIコマンドにより動作し、
    前記外部記憶装置内での前記ホスト計算機向けに論理ユニットを特定する拡張Inquiry情報に対して応答することが可能でかつ特定の論理ユニットを介して前記論理ユニットに対する操作指示を受け取ることができる、ことを特徴とする外部記憶装置。
  2. 請求項１記載の外部記憶装置において、
    前記論理ユニットに対する前記操作指示により、複数または同一の前記論理ユニット間のカップリングによる同期による複製作成および同期からの分離を制御する、ことを特徴とする外部記憶装置。
  3. 請求項２記載の外部記憶装置において、
    前記カップリングを行う前記論理ユニットの属する前記外部記憶装置同士がESCONまたはFiber Channelのネットワークにより接続されている、ことを特徴とする外部記憶装置。
  4. 複数の論理ユニットを持つ外部記憶装置であって、
    当該外部記憶装置は少なくとも１台で構成されており、
    複数のホスト計算機からの SCSI コマンドにより動作し、
    前記外部記憶装置内での前記ホスト計算機向けに論理ユニットを特定する拡張 Inquiry 情報に対して応答することが可能でかつ特定の論理ユニットを介して前記論理ユニットに対する操作指示を受け取ることができ、
    前記論理ユニットのうち少なくとも１つをカップリング制御専用とし、通常のホスト計算機からの読み書きをする論理ユニットとは区別することによって、カップリングを制御するホストプログラムは、前記カップリング制御専用の論理ユニットへの読み書きによりカップリング制御を行い、
    前記ホスト計算機は別ポート間で前記カップリング制御専用の論理ユニットを共有して使用することもでき、この際に別々のグループで一つの論理ユニットを共有した際にはそれぞれは前記ホスト計算機からは独立した前記カップリング制御専用の論理ユニットとして機能し、
    外部から見た論理ユニットの管理情報として、接続ポート番号およびターゲット ID および論理ユニット番号の組み合わせよりなる拡張論理ユニット番号で論理ユニットを特定できるようにし、
    前記拡張論理ユニット番号とデバイススペシャルファイルとの対応を取ることにより、所定の拡張論理ユニット番号以外に対するカップリング操作の要求に対する操作を禁止する、
    ことを特徴とする外部記憶装置。
  5. 請求項１、２、３、または４記載の外部記憶装置を用いた計算機システムにおいて、
    前記外部記憶装置が有する前記論理ユニットを独自で管理する少なくとも１台の前記ホスト計算機が、少なくとも１つのFiber Channel PortおよびSCSIポートにより前記外部記憶装置が有する複数のポートに接続している、ことを特徴とする計算機システム。
  6. 請求項５記載の計算機システムにおいて、
    前記ホスト計算機同士がEthernetによるネットワークで接続されている、ことを特徴とする計算機システム。
