The present invention relates to a bearing system including a rolling element bearing having a bearing support. Rolling element bearing systems are used in rotating machines such as electric motors, vehicles, and home appliances. In some applications, the bearings must have low noise levels, such as in the case of electric motors used to drive household appliances. Until now, attempts have been made to reduce vibrations and displacements due to bearing misalignment by means of elastic suspension blocks, for example rubber. However, rubber blocks have the disadvantage that the radial support stiffness is significantly degraded, and therefore cause undesirably high axial vibrations. For many applications, such as electric motors, this is unacceptable. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a bearing that has the required rigidity characteristics, but also has improved damping characteristics. This object is achieved in that at least one of the bearing rings involves a damping layer consisting at least in part of a viscoelastic material or damping liquid, the damping layer being at a distance from the track of the ring. . The damping layer increases damping due to its viscoelastic properties. Furthermore, the layer can be somewhat thin, so that almost no radial displacement is possible, so that the radial stiffness of the bearing is not affected by the viscoelastic material or only in a limited way Not affected. Despite small deformations of the viscoelastic layer, sufficient damping is obtained by the shear stresses generated in said layer as a result of the relatively high pressure at the point of contact between the rolling element set and the ring. In particular, the radial deformation of the damping layer is desirably of the same order as the dent or contact deformation of the track that occurs between the rolling element and the ring under nominal load without the presence of such a layer. Under these conditions, the radial stiffness of the bearing is on the order of the radial stiffness of a standard bearing. The layer of viscoelastic material may be applied at a number of locations. According to a first possibility, at least one of the rings comprises two concentric ring parts interconnected by a damping layer. Thus, the viscoelastic layer may form an integral part of one of the bearing rings. An increased damping effect can be obtained if the damping layer is located close to the region of the highest shear stress occurring in the ring as a result of the rolling element contacting the track. This layer can be located at a sufficient distance from the outer surface of the outer ring or the hole in the inner ring where it encounters reduced shear stress, so that the bearing, especially this layer, will have a sufficient fatigue life . According to another possibility, the damping layer may be arranged on the outer circumference of the outer race and / or on the inner circumference of the inner race. The resulting attenuation can also be affected by the choice of appropriate materials or layout. For example, the damping layer may be comprised of at least two layers having different material properties and / or thickness. Further, the annular damping layer may not have an axial continuity characteristic. According to the invention, instead of a continuous layer of viscoelastic material, the damping layer may consist of segments of viscoelastic material separated by an axial air gap. The bearing may include at least two concentric damping layers. Further, bearing systems are known that may include, for example, deep groove ball bearings. Under load, a rolling element such as a ball applies a force to the ring trajectory. Thus, these rings deform locally as a result of the contact force. The deformation is highest in the central area near the contact area, and therefore in the central area of the ring. The adjacent edge area of the ring deforms to a much lesser extent. In addition, the rings, and thus the tracks, may have shape deviations, such as out of tolerance or circumferential waviness. Such undulations cause vibrations in the bearing system, which become noise. These phenomena are exacerbated when combined with rigid housing and shaft joints. According to the present invention, a bearing system exhibiting better performance against such vibration is obtained. This is because at least one of the co-operating surfaces of the outer race and the bearing support and / or at least one of the co-operating surfaces of the inner race and the shaft has a circumferential groove just opposite the track of the ring. Is achieved. The ring in question of the bearing system according to the invention can be locally deformed in the area of contact between the track offset elements due to the fact that the supporting forces are applied only in the adjacent edge areas of the ring. Thus, possible vibrations caused by the swell are transmitted less to other elements of the bearing system, such as supports and shafts. The damping effect is obtained by filling at least one groove with a damping liquid or a solid viscoelastic material. The grooves can be provided in various ways. For example, the outer race may be grooved on its outer periphery, or alternatively, the bearing support may be grooved on its contact surface. Further, the inner race may be grooved on its outer periphery, and the shaft may be grooved on its contact surface. Reference is made here to a bearing system as known from US-A-5310268. The bearings applied therein have an outer ring with a circumferential groove, but this groove does not just oppose the rollers in a row. Therefore, no reduction in vibration is obtained. Instead, the groove according to US-A-5310268 plays a role in fixing the outer ring of the bearing to the housing. For that purpose, the groove has a protruding sharp edge that cuts into the wall of the housing. Such a layout is not suitable for damping vibrations and, if subjected to vibrations, would rather lead to wear. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the edge between the groove and the open surface is rounded in a cross section through the axis of the bearing. The smooth transition between the groove and, for example, the opposing wall of the housing results in a reduction in vibration without damaging adjacent components in question. The ratio of the minimum distance between the raceway of the bearing ring and the damping layer to the thickness of the damping layer is between 5 and 15. In particular, the ratio of the minimum distance between the raceway of the bearing ring and the damping layer to the thickness of the damping layer may be between 7 and 10. Preferably, the ratio of the minimum distance between the bearing ring raceway and the damping layer to the thickness of the damping layer is eight. The invention also relates to a rolling element bearing having an inner ring and an outer ring surrounding a bearing space containing at least one row of rolling elements. According to the invention, at least one of the rings comprises a damping layer at least partially composed of a viscoelastic material, which damping layer is at a distance from the trajectory of the ring. Furthermore, the outer ring and / or the inner ring may have a circumferential groove just opposite the track of said ring, said ring being at least partially filled with a viscoelastic material. Hereinafter, the present invention will be further described with reference to some embodiments shown in the drawings. FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of a bearing system according to the invention. FIG. 2 shows a second embodiment. FIG. 3 shows a cross section of the third embodiment. FIG. 4 shows a cross section of the fourth embodiment. FIG. 5 shows a fifth embodiment of the bearing system according to the present invention. FIG. 6 shows a cross section of the sixth embodiment. FIG. 7 shows details of FIG. FIG. 1 shows a bearing 1 supported in a support 2. The bearing 1 includes an outer ring 3 and an inner ring 4, and the inner ring 4 is connected to a shaft 5. The outer ring 3 and the inner ring 4 are rotatable relative to each other by a ball 6. According to the invention, a thin viscoelastic layer 7 is present around the outside of the outer ring 3, which itself is supported by holes formed in the bearing support 2. . The deformation of the viscoelastic layer 7 is of the same order as the contact deformation of the raceways of the outer ring 3 and the inner ring 4 which occurs at the contact point between the rolling element 6 and the outer ring 3 or the inner ring 4. Due to the small thickness of the viscoelastic layer 7, the shaft 5 is supported in a relatively rigid manner in the radial direction, as in a normal bearing. On the other hand, the viscoelastic layer 7 can attenuate the vibration of the shaft 5 despite its small deformation. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, a ball bearing including an outer ring 8, an inner ring 9 connected to a shaft 10, and a ball 11 is shown. The outer ring is divided into two concentric outer ring halves 12, 13 interconnected by a thin viscoelastic layer 14. As in the embodiment of FIG. 1, the deformation of the intermediate viscoelastic layer 14 is of the same order as the contact deformation. Desirably, the distance of the viscoelastic layer 14 to the outer ring raceway is selected so that the viscoelastic layer 14 finds itself where the outer ring 8 has the highest shear stress. However, some distance to the area of highest shear stress is required so that the fatigue life of the layer is not reduced. The shear stress is generated by the rolling motion of the ball 11 on the tracks of the outer rings 12 and 13. If this location is chosen for the viscoelastic layer 14, its contribution to the damping properties of the bearing will be highest. The embodiment of FIG. 3 shows a cross section through the axis of the bearing. The bearing includes an outer ring 15, an inner ring 16 and a ball 17. Outer ring 15 includes two outer ring halves 18, 19 surrounding a thin viscoelastic layer 20. In the cross section of FIG. 3, the thin viscoelastic layer 20 is formed in a mountain shape, and a pressing shear force is generated under a load on the legs 21 of each mountain shape. The embodiment of FIG. 4 shows a bearing with an intermediate viscoelastic layer 24 sandwiched between metal foil layers 23. The sandwich structure of these layers 23 and 24 forms a single body and is applied to the inner ring of the bearing. The outer ring of this bearing is indicated by 26 and the ball is indicated by 25. FIG. 5 shows a bearing system including a deep groove ball bearing 31, an outer ring 32, and a housing 33 supporting these two. Further, the inner ring 34 rotatably supports the shaft 35. A ball 36 is accommodated between the rings 32 and 34. According to the invention, the outer ring 32 has a circumferential groove 37 which is not in contact with the housing 33 in its area but is filled with a viscoelastic material 45. Thus, under load, the outer ring 32 bends only slightly under the force applied to it by the ball 36 in such a way that vibrations such as those caused by undulations of the inner and outer rings are reduced by the viscoelastic material 45 can do. In the alternative embodiment of FIG. 6, the deep groove ball bearing 38 is of a standard design and has rings 39, 40 with a ball 41 housed therebetween. In this case, the housing 42 has a groove 43 at a position just opposite to the track 44 of the inner race 50, and the groove 43 is filled with a viscoelastic material 46. Also in this case, the ability of the outer race 40 to flex at the location of the groove 43 reduces vibrations caused by the load. Of course, the shaft 35 may also have a circumferential groove just opposite the corresponding track of the inner ring 39. 7 shows the edge portion 44 of the groove 37. FIG. This edge portion 44 is somewhat rounded to provide a smooth transition area. Such a smooth transition is advantageous for reducing vibration and prevents wear under dynamic loads.
