Process for molding eyeglass rods in polymeric and composite material and spectacle rod obtained with this process.
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a process for molding eyeglass temples according to the characteristics set out in the preamble of the main claim n. 1.
The invention also relates to an eyeglass rod obtained with the aforementioned procedure, in accordance with independent claim 9.
In the technical sector of reference there are known rods for glasses made by molding in polymeric material and in particular there are known rods for glasses obtained by overmolding of polymeric material on metal portions normally constituting a central core of the rod. The combination of these materials allows undoubted functional advantages in the temple, on the one hand in fact the polymeric material (for example rubber) ensures lightness, comfort of fit and also allows to obtain even rather complex rod geometries with high aesthetic impact, on the other hand side the core in metal material (for example steel) gives strength to the rod and above all allows an adjustability of the rod end, in the head support area, in order to better conform with the contact areas above the ears and thus obtaining the best comfort and stability of fit for the user.
In the continuous search for innovative solutions of both an aesthetic and functional nature, the known art has also proposed rods for glasses in which composite materials are used, typically consisting of a matrix with reinforcing fibers, in addition to those mentioned above. These materials in fact have excellent mechanical characteristics and an aesthetic appearance which makes their use particularly appreciable in the production of eyeglass temples. Normally it is expected that the composite material affects the portion of the external lateral shaft, the one in view with the spectacles on, extending for a large part of the longitudinal development of the shaft starting from the articulation area with the muzzle.
These portions in composite material are typically made with a sheet-like structure delimited by opposing flat surfaces, this conformation being the one most easily obtainable with the known methods of processing and arranging the reinforcing fibers in the matrix of the composite material.
However, a limit that can be found in the use of these types of composites in the temples for glasses is linked to the fact that the temples in the portions affected by these materials have a flat surface and quite angular at the edges, penalizing, also but not only from the point of view in view of the aesthetic impact, the overall profiling of the rod, which instead in other areas, affected by the polymeric material, has surface curvatures and rounded edges of a much more appreciable aesthetic aspect.
This limit could be overcome by preparing, prior to the molding phases of the rod, specific composite structures having predetermined curves, but these solutions involve such complexity in the steps of arrangement and layering of the reinforcing fibers in the matrix, with consequent costly both times and of processing costs, which makes its application in the production of eyeglass temples completely unjustifiable.
The problem underlying the present invention is that of providing a process for molding eyeglass rods in polymeric and composite material and an eyeglass rod obtained with this process, conceived so as to allow the limits complained of with reference to the technique to be overcome. note quoted.
This problem is solved by the invention by means of a process for molding eyeglass rods in polymeric and composite material and a rod for spectacles obtained with this process, made in accordance with the following claims.
Ulteriori caratteristiche e vantaggi dell'invenzione meglio risulteranno dalla descrizione dettagliata che segue di un suo preferito esempio di attuazione illustrato, a titolo indicativo e non limitativo, con riferimento agli uniti disegni in cui: Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become clearer from the detailed description which follows of a preferred example of embodiment illustrated, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

With reference to the aforementioned figures, 1 indicates as a whole a rod for glasses, obtained according to the method of the invention and suitable for making a generic pair of glasses 2, only schematically represented in figure 1. It is understood that the glasses 2 can be indifferently eyeglasses, sunglasses, for sports practice, etc.
The rod 1 is typically developed along a prevalent longitudinal direction, indicated by X in the figures, along which the rod has a predetermined length L. Transversally to the X direction, the rod has a cross section in which it is possible to identify a height of shaft, indicated with H and measured substantially parallel to the temporal zone of the head with the glasses worn, and a shaft thickness, indicated with S and measured transversely to the aforementioned height H. The aforementioned dimensions of length, height and rod thickness can be appropriately chosen to obtain different ranges of temples, obviously depending on the type of glasses they are intended for. The rod 1 also has, in a conventional way, an end 1a intended for the hinge joint with a muzzle connected to the front frame 2a of the eyeglasses 2, and an opposite longitudinal end 1 b intended for resting contact on the user's head, in proximity ear. At the end 1b, a suitably adjustable terminal element can be provided to ensure a selected fit of the rod in the head support area.
The rod 1 comprises a core 3 made of metal material, for example steel, running in the longitudinal direction X, destined to remain embedded, at least partially, in a polymeric material 4, for example rubber, overmoulded on the core 3 during the molding step injection with which the rod is made.
The rod 1 also comprises a portion 5 made of composite material with a fiber-reinforced resin matrix, which is integrated into the rod during the molding step by adhering to the polymeric material injected into the mold, so as to remain firmly anchored to it as well as to the internal metal core. In a typical cross section of the rod 1, the arrangement of the aforesaid materials is such that, following molding, the rod has the composite portion 5 arranged externally in correspondence with the lateral face in view of the rod, with the glasses fitted , indicated with F1, while the polymeric material 4 injected during the molding phase is extended until it affects at least the opposite internal side face of the rod, indicated with F2, the metal core 3 remaining embedded, not visible, substantially in an interposed position between composite and polymeric materials.
The molding process according to the invention provides in a preliminary step the preparation of a first and a second mold half, indicated respectively with 6 and 7, intended to be clamped against each other to define the mold cavity subject to the injection of the polymeric material 4, inside which respective surface impressions 6a, 7a relating to the opposite faces F1, F2 of the rod are obtained. In particular, in the half-mold 6 defining the impression relating to the lateral face F1 in view of the rod 1, the surface profile 6a of the impression is predisposed concave with a selected curvature C, corresponding to the desired curvature in the face F1 of the rod over. This curvature is understood to be also complex as it is defined by several radii of curvature in succession and mutually joined.
Similarly, the surface profile of the imprint 7a of the opposed half-mold 7 is also predisposed concave with predetermined curvature C 'corresponding to the desired curvature for the side face F2, the internal one facing the user's head with glasses on.
A subsequent phase (fig. 4) of the process provides that with the half-molds 6,7 separated from each other, the metal core 3 and the composite material 5 are positioned in the mold in a suitably supported manner. The composite material is previously prepared with a sheet-like structure having opposite flat surfaces 5a, 5b and a suitable shaping obtained for example by cutting from a sheet. The sheet-like structure of the composite 5 is made according to conventional techniques with arrangement of several layers of reinforcing fibers (preferably carbon fibers) woven and impregnated with a thermosetting resin (for example epoxy) or thermoplastic, in which the layers are spread, one superimposed on the other, on a flat surface, obtaining a semi-finished plate-like shape with a flat conformation, on which the perimeter profile corresponding to the one chosen for the composite portion 5 to be integrated in the rod is obtained.
It should be noted that in this phase the flat-shaped composite 5 is inserted into the mold with one (5a) of the flat surfaces facing the concave surface imprint 6a formed in the half-mold 6, remaining supported at a predetermined distance from it. The metal core 3 is instead supported in the mold in a position between the composite material 5 and the imprint of the other half-mold 7, so that the metal core 3 faces the surface imprint 7a of the relative half-mold. The core 3 also has a flattened configuration, with an arrangement substantially parallel to the composite plate 5 and is also provided with a plurality of holes or openings 3a passing through its own thickness, said holes allowing the passage in the injection phase of the material plastic injected into the mold in order to create anchoring bridges with the core, thus improving the stability of adhesion in the relative fixing.
With the subsequent closure of the mold (fig. 5), the composite plate 5 and the metal core 3 therefore remain supported in a substantially centered position within the mold cavity 6, both however spaced from the respective surface impressions facing them. It should be noted, with reference to Figure 4, that the composite material 5 is positioned in the mold so as to divide the mold cavity into the two respective half-cavities defined by the respective surface impressions 6a, 7a, with respect to the median coupling plane of the seeds. - molds 6, 7.
In a subsequent step of the process (Fig. 6) the polymeric material 4, preferably polyurethane, is injected into the mold with which the mold cavity is filled. In particular, the injection is mainly directed into the cavity of the half-mold 7, so as to allow the composite 5 to deform, under the action of the pressure forces present in the mold, until it adheres to the surface of the impression 6a assuming its surface conformation. with the corresponding curvature C. In this phase, schematically illustrated in Figure 5, the polymeric material 4, due to the pressure and temperature conditions induced in the mold cavity, is induced to weld to the core 3 as well as to the composite 5, in particular on the surface 5b of the same and along its perimeter profile, filling at the same time the impression 7a and assuming its relative curvature C 'as well as urging the composite 5 to flex up to a position leaning against the impression 6a, in correspondence with which the composite 5 assumes a convex conformation with the relative curvature C.
When the injection is completed, and the relative opening of the mold, following the relative adhesion induced between the various components present in the mold, the rod 1 assumes in cross section the configuration illustrated in figure 7, where the main aspect is that the portion in composite material 5 has the curved surface configuration described above, definitively assuming the convexity related to the curvature C, connected to the part in polymeric material 4 (also of convex conformation) characterized by the curvature C '. The result is to obtain a rod with a rounded profile on both faces F1, F2 of the same, which profile significantly improves the overall aesthetic appearance of the rod due to the curved profile obtained in every part of the cross section, especially in correspondence with the portion of the rod in composite material, a portion that is visible when the glasses are fitted. It is obviously understood that the cross sections that follow one another along the longitudinal development direction may have configurations with curved sections of different curvature, depending on the selected overall geometry of the rod.
Thanks to the adhesion of the polymeric material 4 on the composite material 5 in correspondence with the perimeter profile of the composite, it is also possible to obtain adequate radii in the discontinuity points of the profile (separation edge between different materials) to the advantage of the overall roundness or curvature of the cross section d auction.
In figure 3 the rod 1 obtained with the process of the invention is schematically represented with detached parts, assuming that these parts, shown here separated, are to be understood as integrated with each other and connected thanks to the relative adhesion obtained in the injection molding step . For clarity of illustration, of the rod body in polymeric material 4 only the superficial skin part is shown without the filling material enclosed by it.
Advantageously, the portion in composite material 5, whose surface convexity, obtained with the procedure described above, significantly improves the overall aesthetic impact of the rod, is only partially extended in the X direction of the length of the rod, up to a predetermined distance from the rod. end zone 1 b, the remaining end zone constituting the rod terminal, in which, thanks to the sole presence of polymeric material 4 (which characterizes both faces F1 and F2 of the rod) and metal core 3 embedded in it, the The shaft can be easily bent to adjust the most suitable shape to ensure comfort and stability of fit for the user in the head support area.
L’invenzione raggiunge pertanto gli scopi prefissati conseguendo i vantaggi enunciati rispetto alle soluzioni note. The invention therefore achieves the intended purposes by achieving the advantages stated with respect to known solutions.
A main advantage lies in the fact that, thanks to the method of the invention, it is possible to produce eyeglass rods in polymeric and composite material, in which, starting from the use of composite materials with a sheet-like conformation, it is possible to obtain appropriate curvatures in the finished rod also in the portions of rod affected by the composite material in view, with consequent simplification and ease of construction of the rod together with an improved overall aesthetic impact compared to rods with composite material of known type.
