Abstract

The complex comprises a untreated gas cooler 3 in the flow of the current of untreated gas 1 between an electrical filter 2 and a wash device 6 which removes sulphur from the untreated gas. Between wash device 6 and a stack 9 a heater 8 is incorporated in the flow of untreated gas 7. Untreated gas cooler 3 and heater 8 are connected together by means of a cooling fluid which circulates in a closed circuit 11. The dimensions of the surfaces transmitting heat in cooler 3 are calculated in relation to the quantity and velocity of the untreated gas in such a way that the untreated gas, passing in a countercurrent direction with respect to the cooling fluid, has a temperature in every part of cooler 3 which lies within the SO3 diagram depending upon the temperature in degrees C on or above the saturation curve defined by the specific dew point temperature. In this way the formation of sulphuric acid aerosols can be avoided, or sulphuric acid aerosols which form can be separated from the untreated gas. <IMAGE>
