Abstract
Wet oxidn. of impurities in effluent water is carried out with a mixt. contg. >=60% oxygen, the remainder being of cpds. which are resistant to oxidn. Pref. the oxidn. is carried out at >170 degrees C using liq. oxygen or a mixt. of oxygen and ozone as oxidising agent. Use of liq. O2 or O2/O3 mixts. in place of air as in prior art processes gives good oxidn. of impurities without the necessity for installing air compressors. Smaller oxidn. reactors can be used due to the absence of inert diluents in the oxidising gas.
