Abstract

Electrophotographic appts. for double transfer of images comprises a photoconducting component, typically a roll possessing a photoconducting surface layer and an electrically conducting inner layer. The outer, photoconducting layer is uniformly charged by a charging unit. The thus charged layer is illuminated with a light-shadow pattern representing the original, this is done by selectively discharging the already charged surface layer. A dielectric component, typically a second roll has an electrically insulating surface and a conducting substrate, this receives the latent electrostatic image by ionisation of air in the gap between the two rolls, so that the image is transferred to the second roll. This image is then toned by a toner device to make it visible. The toned image is then transferred onto the receiving sheet. Used as a double-transfer electrophotographic device or as an electrostatic transfer printer.
