Abstract

The furnace consists of a crucible provided with a channel forming a closed 'O' loop. On the channel is a closed electromagnet yoke (I) carrying a coil fed with electricity and thus inducing electric current in the molten metal in the channel. The channel is provided with an outlet gutter; and near the gutter is a C-shaped magnet yoke (II) which also carries an electromagnet coil. The channel is also fitted with an electrically-conducting plug or a hole which promotes transfer of part of the induced current from the channel into the crucible; and a third yoke (III) with an air gap is located near the plug or hole. Yoke (III) also carries an electromagnet coil. Used for melting, mixing and/or holding of molten metal which will subsequently be fed into a ladle or moulds. Thorough mixing of the molten metal in the crucible and the channel so the metal has a uniform temp. without hot spots.
