Abstract
Bottom wall of a gasification reactor has a slag transfer, passageway with an upper region of dia. (W1) cross-section and one or more lower regions of larger dia. (W2) cross-section. The lower edge of the or each lower region is situated above a diagonal which passes through the point at which the top of the passageway intersects the bottom of the reactor and the point at which the molten slag drips from the lower edge of the upper region of the passageway. Pref. W2 is greater than W1 (1+2H2/H1), where H1 is the length of the upper region of the passageway and H2 is the length of the lower region of the passageway. The reactor is used for gasification of finely divided solid fuels contg. non-gasifiable constituents which form a slag. The passageway allows transfer of the slag to a further treatment stage with minimum heat loss and maximum yield of conversion of solids to gas. The design of the passageway ensures that the slag only contacts the passageway wall in the upper region so that slag solidification and blockage of the passageway are avoided.
