Abstract

The boreholes are pref. arranged in a grid, which can be triangular or square, with a space of about 3-4 m, between them. Each borehole contains a first tube in contact with the surrounding soil and a second tube within the first, through which the water is circulated to introduce or extract heat. The water is heated by any suitable means, e.g. solar collectors or cooling appts. in industrial processes. The heat can be used in buildings, the relatively low temp. available being compensated for by using a large area of thin flat water reservoirs within the walls of the buildings, the water being circulated through these by a control system including pumps, intermediate water stores, heat pumps, and an overall electronic controller. The reservoirs operate at or near atmospheric pressure. Similar reservoirs in walls of buildings can serve as solar collectors. The system is used for year-round heating of buildings using waste and solar energy.
