Abstract
Several vertical holes are drilled into the earth a few metres apart from each other over an area sufficient to form a thermal core. The area is as nearly square as possible and the depth of the holes is approximately half the mean of the sides. The bore of each hole is made watertight by a rubber ring held in place by suitable studs. Water heated in a solar energy absorber is passed into a tube in the centre of each hole and rises up the outside of the tube after heating the surrounding earth. The arrangement and layout of the holes enables a comparatively small block of earth to store sufficient heat from summer to winter for domestic purposes.
