Abstract
Hydroxymethylpyridine esters of formula (I) are new, and their acid-addition and quaternary ammonium salts (where R is unsubstd. 9-xanthenyl, phenyl substd. by halo, CF3, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy). A typical cpd., 3-(4-fluorobenzoyloxymethyl) pyridine hydrochloride, was prepd. in 67.7% yield by reaction of 4-fluorobenzoyl chloride with 3-hydroxymethylpyridine in benzene isolating the free base from the reaction mixture and treating it with ethereal HCl. Used for treatment of cardiovascular disorders, e.g. cardiac anhythmias.
