Abstract
The heat exchanger consists of a bundle of plates with several tubes of about 10mm dia. running through them joined by U bends. The plates have a series of short and long slot like projections cut or pressed into them formed into several series. Each series has two rows of short slots flanked on either side by a row of long slots. In each series are the holes for the tubes and these have projecting spacer ties. The slot rows interchange with the row of holes. The slots and the space between them are both 2.0 to 2.2 mm wide. The ht of the projection over the slots is equal to half the ht of the projecting spacer tie, which is 1.8mm at most. The tubes are arranged on a triangular pitch with centres on an equilateral triangle of 23.5 to 25 mm. For use in air conditioning equipment. This type of exchanger is common for heating air streams but heat transfer is relatively poor between the plates and the air. The system described improves this and therefore gives a more compact exchanger.
