Abstract

High yield point metal rods with good adhesive properties are prepd. by producing an elliptical rod by subjecting a metal strip to cold compacting in order to reduce the cross sectional area and to increase the yield point of the material. Pressure is applied to the elliptical rod at peripheral locations at opposite ends of the major axis. A portion of the metal these locations is allowed to shift towards other peripheral locations which are at opposite ends of the minor axis, whilst another portion of metal remains unshifted and free from metalogrpahic transformation. The unshifted portion forms a core and studs. The shifting of the material transforms the elliptical rod to a circular rod with studs. The rods are used for stirrups, clamps, etc., for tying reinforcement bars; in small concrete beams, slabs, and road structures; and in prefabricated concrete members of small size. The process is continuous, and the metal strip which defines the starting material can be obtd. by cutting a sheet-like metal plate into parallel strips.
