Abstract
A lattice of metal wire reinforcement for reinforced concrete tubular elements T having a socket e comprises two sets of wires 1, 2 and 3 respectively which cross at right angles and are welded at the crossings 4, the wires 2 of the set 1, 2 having successive deformed non-rectilinear portions which can be at least partially straightened whereas the other wires of the set 1, 2 and all of the wires of set 3, are rectilinear. The lattice is made of steel having an intrinsic elongation characteristic the wires 2 having non-rectilinear portions, either in the form of corrugations as shown or, in the form of folds, loops, &c., located in, or outside, the plane of the lattice. The deformed portions can be continuous, as shown, or, interrupted by short rectilinear portions. The desired size of lattice is cut from a main roll and is then bent and welded into a cylindrical form having a diameter d equal to the mean diameter ab of a concrete pipe T being formed. The deformed rings 2a of the cylindrical reinforcement are expanded, e.g. on an expansible mandrel, the corresponding ends of the longitudinal wires 3 also being bent outwardly in the region of the socket zone e. The reinforcement is placed in a mould into which concrete e.g. is poured. The reinforcement can be fashioned for use with non-circular pipes.
