Abstract

A Na percarbonate compsn. with improved stability when used in solid bleaches and detergents is prepd. by treating solid Na percarbonate particles with an aq. sol. prepd. by deionising a soln. of a water-soluble silicate with a pH of 3-10 (pref. 6.5-10, esp. 8-9.5) and contg. 3-8% (w/v) of SiO2 with a max. particle size of 0.1 mu, and drying the product, the amt. of sol used corresponding to 1-10 (pref. 1.2-5) pts. wt. SiO2 per 100 pts. wt. of Na percarbonate. The water-soluble silicate is pref. an alkali metal (esp. Na) silicate. The sol can be prepd. by treating the silicate soln. with a cation exchanger in the H form, and pref. contains particles of SiO2 with a particle size of 0.002-0.05 mu. The sol is pref. sprayed onto the Na percarbonate particles after the latter have been stabilised with Mg ions, a complexing agent or benzoic acid.
