Claims (7)
1. In a process for the. production of ethylene oxide by the silver catalyzed oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen, the improvement which comprises: employing ethane as a component in the oxidation reaction mixture and maintaining a concentration thereof in said mixture of 10 to 70 volume percent, and maintaining a concentration of carbon dioxide in said mixture of 10 to 70 volume percent, the ratio vol.% ethane being 0.125 to 0.875 vol.% ethane + vol.% carbon dioxide
2. A process according to Claim 1 wherein said ratio vol.% ethane is from vol.% ethane + vol.% carbon dioxide 0.15 to 0.750.
3. · A process according to Claim 1 wherein the concentration of carbon dioxide in said reaction mixture is 20 to 68 volume percent.
4. A process according to Claim 1 wherein a substantial portion of ethane is introduced into the process in the ethylene feed.
5. A process according to Claim 1 wherein the ethane is introduced into the process from an independent source. w> 39252/2 1
6. A process according to Claim 1 wherein 2 said mixture comprises: < 3 - -, Ethylene 4 to 40 volume percent 4 Oxygen 6 to 15 volume percent 5 Ethane 10 to 70 volume percent 6 Carbon Dioxide 10 to 70 volume percent 1

A process according to Claim wherein 2 said mixture comprises: 3 Ethylene * 6 to 35 volume percent 1» Oxygen 7' to 1*1 volume percent 5 Ethane 11 to 65 volume percent 6 Carbon Dioxide 15 to 69 volume percent • 7 and the ratio vol. % ethane is vol.5, ethane + vol.iS carbon dioxide 8 from 0.137 to 0.812. 8> A process for the production of ethylene oxide, substantially as described herein.
