Claims (3)

1. In combination, a projectile to be fired from a gun barrel and a rear sabot, said rear sabot comprising a plurality of annular segments surrounding the projectile , said segments and said projectile being formed with means for inhibiting relative axial movement between said segments and said projectile prior to the disintegratio of said sabot, a drive band surrounding said segments and serving to secure them in position around said projectile, coupling means for coupling the segments to the drive band and to the projectile for transmitting a rotary drive, imparted to the drive band, to the projectile via the segments , a base plate fitted to a rear portion of the' projectile and interengaging with said segments at corresponding continuous , sloping surfaces of rim portions of said plate and said segments, the arrangement being such that upon rotatio of the combination the centrifugal forces acting on said segments tend to displace them radially outwardly which in turn, after the projectile has left the barrel, tends to cause said plate to fl slide in axial direction on th corresponding sloping surface of the segments away from said rear end.

2. A combination according to Claim 1, wherein said segments are formed with peripheral inwardly directed ribs which in the assembled state slope upwardly awa from the projectile base and are designed to engage in a corresponding peripheral groove formed in the projectile body.

3. combination according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein an annular recess is formed at rear edges of said segments , and wherein said rim portion of said plate is constituted by a peripheral flange of the plate, said sloping surfaces being respectively constituted by wall portions of said recess and said flange.
