Claims (8)
1. In combination a spin stabilised sub-calibre, projectile fired from a gun barrel and a forward sabot there-for, said-..iaa&& sabot comprising a plurality of annular segments surrounding the projectile, said segments and said-projectile bein formed with means for inhibiting relative axial movement between the segments . d projectile, as long as this one is within the gun barrel, a unitary ring surrounding the -segments and serving to secure them in position around the projectile, ±he ri ! and the segments being formed with respective corresponding sloping surfaces and locating means for releasably locating the ring to the segments, the arrangement being such that upon rotation of the projectile the centrifugal forces acting on the segments imparts to the said locating means a .radiaT..displacement which in turn causes the ring to slide in a substantially axial direction on the corresponding sloping surface of the segments after the projectile has left the gun barrel until detachment of the ring from the segments permits the detachment of the latter from the projectile.
2. A combination according to Claim 1, wherein the segments and the projectile are formed with inter-engageable projections and recesses so as to inhibit said relative axial movement·
3. A combination according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein coupling means are provided for coupling the segments together for rotation but leaving them free for relative axial movement. % - 14 -
4. A combination according to Claim 3, wherei said coupling means comprise coupling pins each of which extend through an appropriate "bore in a segment and into a slot in the ring.
5. A combination according to Claim 4» wherein eac said coupling pin is located at one end thereof in a corresponding recess formed in the projectile.

A combination according to any one of the preceding Claims, wherein said locating means cpmprise spin biased locating pins disposed within recesses formed in said ring and urgpd into corresponding recesses formed in said segments, the arrangement being such that centrifugal fcrces generated by the rotation of said sabot urge said locating pins into said ring recesses.

A combination according to any one of Claims 1 to 5 , wherein said locating means comprise , locating pins serving to screw couple said segments and ring together each locating pin being provided with a frangible portion which breaks upon the initiation of said radial displacement of said segments.
8. In combination a spin stabilised sub-calibre projectile and a sabot therefor, substantially as hereinbefore described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings. For the Applicants DR. HOLD COHN AMD PARTNERS IS/rb
