Description

Foil Wrapping for Cheeee and ether Foodstuff The invention oonoeras a foil wrapper or covering for foodstuffs which are to be opened, respectively exposed, by removing the wrapper or the largest part of the wrapper used for cheese, butter, margarine or the like, which are preferably of parallelepiped shape, particularly flat parallelepiped or tablet shaped, and which keep their shape at low room temperature but are soft when warm.
Such packaging or wrappings with metal foil or sheets of othe material are known.
The opening of the packaged piece, for instance of a piece of freshly produced oheese or butter and the like leads to difficulties, particularly when the packaged piece has become soft through warming and has then become hard, for example in the refrigerator. An unfolding of the wrapper Is then particularly cumbersome.
The Invention overcomes these disadvantages and provides a foil wrapper which is adapted to be easily and safely removed and which sufficiently protects the contents, particularly a metal foil wrapper which can be pulled off easily and safely.
The wrapper according to the Invention oonsists of three foil pieces, two of which are attached to each other, while the third foil piece is a cover piece which is not conneoted to the other two and can serve as a supporting pad after the packaged piece has been opened. One of the two connected foil pieces overlap in cup-like manner one base surface of the packaged pieoe and the four side surfaces| its bent-over edges lie on the edge portions of the opposite base surface on top of the cover piecef while the third foil pieoe connected therewith as a tearing strip covers the packaged piece on the inside on one base surface and one side surfaoe and lies against the edge portion of the opposite base surfaoe adjacent said side surfaoe between the corresponding edge portion of the cup-shaped piece and the separate oover piece, and is provided with a free tab for - The edge portions of the foil pieces are connected to each other in such a way that the wrapper enoloses the wrapped piece hermetically. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tearing strip oonsists of a material which has greater mechanical resistance than the cup-shaped foil connected therewith.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the tearing strip consists of a thicker material than the cup-shaped foil connected therewith. The free tab of the tearing strip is preferably of a different colour than the cover foil piece lying under it.
The connection of the tearing strip with the registering surfaces of the cup-shaped foil pieoe is aade in any desired manner and may, for example, be carried out by glueing. The connection is preferably effected over all the overlapping surfaces of both foil pieces, since the reliable tearing of the wrapper is then assured. An edge connection of the overlapping parts of both foil pieces oan also be provided, whereby the inner surfaces remain free and the edge strips which are connected together serve as tearing bands and the inner parts are taken along.
The packing is preferably effected by erecting in a cup-like manner the side parts of the cup-shaped foil piece and the tearing strip oonneoted to it, filling in the contents,, disposing thereon the cover foil, bending over the three edge portions of the cup-shaped foil pieoe and the one edge portion of the connecting foil (cup-shaped foil piece plus tearing strip), glueing or sealing the overlapping foil pieces using an easily melting glue, e.g. thermoplastic plastics, with a short heating period.
For opening, the package can be laid on that side on which the cover foil is located, whereby the tab is held and the tearing strip is torn off with the corresponding parts of the cup-shaped foil pieoe by holding the side surfaces which are perpendicular to the direction of tearing. The foil strips which remain on the side surfaces which have been held, oan easily be removed, e.g. by using a fork or a knifef the cover foil piece oan remain as a supporting pad. The packing and opening of the wrapper While with the knom foil packaging for e.g. flat parallelepiped pieces of fresh cheese the packaging procedure had to he effected in reverse order so that the pieces of cheese could be unwrappedf wherein the overlapping tongues had to be removed one after the other which was hardly, or not at all possible without getting the fingers greasy or vet, the wrapper according to the invention eliminates this disadvantage.
The drawing shows a preferred embodiment of the foil wrapper according to the invention.
Fig, 1 is a section through a wrapped piece of cheese of rectangular oross-section, Fig. 2 is a plan, view, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the tearing strip in the unfolded oonditon, 1.e. the blank of this piece is shown.
The piece of cheese E is covered at its bottom base surface and at one side face by the tearing strip 3. The cover foil piece 2 is put onto the opposite base surface, i.e. the top. The tearing strip 3 with its edge portion 3' overlaps the one edge 2* of the cover foil piece 2 which has approximately the shape of the base of the piece of cheese.
The tab 3" remains free, while the rest ofi the surface of the tearing strip 3 is connected with the cup-like foil piece 1, whioh applies itself against the bottom base surface and all the side surfaces of the piece of oheese, respectively the corresponding parts of the tearing strip 3, and lies at the top surface with its bent-over edges 1* on the cover foil piece 2, or the bent-over part of the tearing strip 3.
When now toe tab 3° is held and is pulled upwards while the wrapped piece of cheese is held at its sides, the part of the oup-shaped foil 1 whioh is connected with the tearing strip 3 is torn off from the other parts of the cup-shaped foil while the pleoe of oheese is positioned crosswise. The piece of oheese is now exposed and when turned upside-down can be deposited on the cover piece 2. The remaining parts of the oup-shaped foil are hereby loosened or removed.
