Abstract

A heat exchanger (9) for producing steam is connected to a steam injection jet (3) mounted in the carburettor (5). The heat exchanger (9) comprises a heat exchanger tube, e.g. a coil (18) mounted in a plug (21) for securing in the exhaust manifold (10) of an internal combustion engine (2). Steam is delivered into an induction pipe (4) of the carburettor (5) upstream of the choke valve (7) by the steam injection jet (3). Water is delivered to the heat exchanger (9) from a water header tank (14) through a conduit (15) past an adjustable screw 25. The volume proportions of water and fuel fed to the engine may be 1 to 50. <IMAGE> [GB2084658A]
