Abstract

1453705 Making carrier bags F ATTUCCI 16 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 53268/73 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] Webs M1, M2, Fig. 2, are welded and cut at 1A, Figs. 2 and 3, into separated flattened bag sections 3, which are forwarded successively by two conveyers 5, 12, comprising belts 9, 7 and 16, 14 respectively, the second conveyer being driven at half the speed of the first. At the exit end of each conveyer, the upper and lower belts become interleaved so as to bend and stiffen the sections. The sections are then stacked on a series of trays 20, Fig. 6, two of which are in stacking positions 20A, 20B at any one time. When the tray at 20A is half full, all the trays are indexed by a conveyer 28 so that the half full tray is filled at 20B, while full trays are moved in succession to a stack-pressing position 20C (which may be omitted), a punching position 20E where portions corresponding to bag handles and access openings are punched out, and a position 20F, Figs. 6 and 8, where the punched-out waste is pushed into a shoot 54, and from which the stack is moved sideways to a position 56A. From the position 56A, the stack is removed manually or by a conveyer 58, or alternatively, it rests on two tables 72, Fig. 12, which can be moved apart to allow it to fall on to previous stacks in a box 74 supported on a table 76 which is rotated 180 degrees between each stack.
