Abstract

Pregnanoic acid derivatives of the following formula <IMAGE> in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1, are prepared. These compounds are obtained by oxidising a corresponding pregnane derivative which has an aldehyde group in position 21 to the free acid using heavy metal oxides. These acids can be converted into corresponding 21-esters. The said compounds which have a saturated 1,2-bond can be dehydrogenated to DELTA <1,4>-steroids. 11-Hydroxy groups can be oxidised to 11-keto groups; the 11-hydroxy group can also be esterified. It is furthermore possible to hydrolyse ester groups and to convert the free acid into the alkali metal salts. The said compounds are valuable pharmaceutical agents and can also be used as intermediates for the preparation of pharmaceuticals. [GB1457264A]
