Abstract

1475075 Triterpene hemiglutarates BIOREX LABORATORIES Ltd 11 Sept 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 42878/73 Heading C2U The invention comprises compounds of formulµ (wherein R is H, alkyl or alkenyl, and R<SP>1</SP> is H or alkyl) and the non-toxic salts of those compounds wherein R and/or R<SP>1</SP> is H; and their preparation from glycyrrhetinic, 18α-glycyrrhetinic or oleanolic acid or an alkyl or alkenyl ester thereof, by reaction with glutaric anhydride or with a monoalkyl ester-monoacid halide of glutaric acid, optionally followed by esterification or salification of any free carboxy groups. Antiinflammatory compositions for oral and parenteral administration comprise a compound I or II and a carrier.
