Abstract

1392382 Heat-treating titanium alloys PECHINEY UGINE KUHLMANN 19 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 23704/72 Heading C7A An alpha-beta alloy in the quenched and annealed state having a structure of 10% to 50% of primary alpha in an acicular or finely lamellar alpha + beta matrix. The structure may be obtained by working in the alpha + beta range, quenching from at least 10‹C below the minimum temperature at which the alpha-beta transformation is complete but above that at which beta can persist in metastable form, followed by a stabilization heat-treatment. As particularly exemplified a Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy is hot-worked, water quenched from 960‹-980‹C and finally treated at 730 C. The alloy may be used for aeronautical fastenings, structures and landing gear, turbine discs and blades, rotor hubs for helicopters, connecting rods, and underwater applications. [GB1392382A]
