Abstract

1399153 Non-woven fabric; finishing fabrics A E WILDEMAN 21 Feb 1973 [3 March 1972] 9938/72 Headings D1R and D1S A stitch-bonded fabric containing thermoplastic fibres is autogenously bonded to reduce pilling on both surfaces by passing the fabric through the nip formed by a heated embossing roll and a cold roll. The fabric is formed by carding and cross-laying or by air-laying nylon 6, nylon 66, polyester or polypropylene fibres, a blend of 50-65% nylon 6 and 35-50% nylon 66, fibres a blend of 40% bicomponent nylon 6 sheath/nylon 66 core and 60% nylon 66 fibres, or a blend of 35 to 90% viscose rayon fibres with nylon 6 or polypropylene fibres. The resultant fleece is passed through a stitch-knitting machine having 25 needles/ inch to produce 1.6 mm chain stitches without added yarn. The stitched fleece is calendered with the non loop side in contact with the heated embossing roll. This roll is maintained at 225-230‹C and carries a pattern of 0.68 x 0.68 mm raised squares 0.52 mm apart, the raised square comprising 32% of the roller surface. The loop side of the fleece contacts a cold steel roll or a cotton covered roller and is less autogeneously bonded than the non loop side. [GB1399153A]
