Abstract
1390230 Ensilage A EBERHARDT and D EBERHARDT [trading as EBERHARDT Gebr] 4 July 1972 [10 July 1971] 31150/72 Heading A1F Silage is stored in a horizontal stack by a wheeled device having a roller 3 carrying rigid prongs 5 arranged helically about a shaft 4 which feeds forage from a conveying means 17, having a reciprocating feed member 16 into a tubular cover 12. The feed member 16 is guided in a frame 26 and is driven off the shaft 4 via a crank drive 18 mounted on one side of the device's housing 2 and including a lever 22, a torsion tube 19 and push rods 20. The height at which member 16 operates may be adjusted and the crank drive 18 is adjustable by altering the points 21 of connection between the push rods 20 and the member 16. The conveying means 17 is hingedly connected to the housing 2 at 27 and has ground wheels 25. The shaft 4 is mounted in the lower third of the housing 2 and its prongs 5 extend between metal strips 8 defining a channel through which the forage passes and under which is placed a guide plate 15 on the base 11 of the housing 2. The angular spacing of the prongs 5 on the shaft is greater at the outer ends than at the centre and these outermost prongs are arranged to engage the forage before the inner prongs.
