Abstract

1298239 Endless conveyers GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 7 Oct 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 47723/70 Heading B8A A safety device arranged in an opening in a balustrade to receive an escalator hand rail 4 comprises a resilient tube 18 arranged to extend around the hand rail and close said opening and to contain a fluid 30 in communication with a pressure-sensitive switch 26 arranged in the control circuit of the escalator and the escalator hand rail whereby any foreign objects carried by the hand rail into said opening will deflect the tube and operate the pressure-sensitive switch to stop the hand rail and the escalator. The tube has an outwardly directed mounting flange 19 and is protected from accidental operation by a sleeve 20. The sleeve is provided with a pressure sensitive tape 31 for the detection of objects small enough to be received in the sleeve but too large to pass through the opening. The tape is connected into the control circuits of the hand rail and the escalator. [GB1298239A]
